MAJOR Announcement Tomorrow (a.k.a. Disney Springs)

~Thanks for the update! I like the idea but loathe the name. I think the overhead train is pretty neat, too! We'll see. :goodvibes

I wonder if they are taking that idea from the success of the High Line Park here in NYC.

I agree 100% with lockedoutlogic. I would bet that is about as deadon accurate an assumption as I have heard on this project. I ties it all together on so many levels.

The Sentinel ran with it...though unclear if its a big to do or just a minor "by the way...we're gonna redo one of the primary 5 guest areas that we turned into a war zone 5 years ago...expanding real guest options and capacity"

If it were a phineas and ferb interactive game - they'd have mickey, fireworks, and the ghost of walt in front of Spaceship Earth with GMA doing a live feed

I'm Ok with just about anything at this point that makes DTD lend together. Right now it is shopping and a few restaurants on one side. Basically a walk way with nothing of interest and then a movie theatre and DQ on the other side. Honestly, there is never anyone on the West Side when we have been. They need to do something to make the whole area attractive.

update:
bad skies threatening the announcement, but it could still happen at 2pm if skies clear. Cast still expected to be told the plans internally

Aka not happening lol.

As long as they have Bingo and rice pudding, I'll be fine with Disney Springs.

maybe there will be "early-bird" dinner specials from 4-6pm!

That will be a first...since they have no need or desire to make internal announcements to nametags. This would be a first.

The typical limit of "management" plans to CMs fall into one of two categories:

We need to put you on mandatory 48...or We need to put you on mandatory 32

right, I'm thinking more the front line managers. If there are meetings scheduled, it becomes an instance of circumstance rather than desired outcome since clearly the desired outcome was for the public to know first(as is always the case) with cast coming next. I'd expect the plans to then show up in eyes and ears well after they are released to the public, managers, and on the hub.

Actually, the closure of PI was given to cast about half an hour before it was public if memory serves, but that was a unique situation.

So could someone here explain all the dislike for Saratoga Springs? We're not in DVC by any means, but we've stayed there the last few times and have thoroughly enjoyed it, but this thread seems to imply most other people dislike it...?

I can honestly say that I'm not surprised Captain Jack's is going. The last time we ate there we were less than impressed with the food and service. I mean it was ok, but just ok. It was really no different than a normal bar at home.

Oh My..I really hope the name is not Disney Springs, I think it sounds like a retirement home of long ago UGH!
And a huge parking garage? That reminds me of Malls.. the place many of us avoid unless its the Holidays :lmao:

really Hope the REALITY of it is Better than the Rumors ;)

IMHO, Saratoga springs was built to generate tons of DVC ownerships as cheaply as possible. My biggest complaint is that not only do I not want to go there (due to location mostly) but the majority of SSR owners do not want to go there. It filled the DVC community with excess points desiring to stay at the premier location resorts, making them more difficult to book. Hopefully the inclusion of SSR into the new Disney Springs will draw more people to the resort. They better build the bridge connecting to SSR. They should build two.

bummer no return of the Adventure Club.

If this doesn't kill all hope for a return of the AC, I don't know what would. It seems like Disney is completely exiting the whole nightlife/partying market in Orlando (a la CityWalk) and creating a 100% family-friendly atmosphere with specialty brands in a themed setting. While I'm not arguing that this isn't a glorified shopping center (not to put it down), the theming isn't necessarily on par with your local shopping mall (unless you live next to the MoA I guess, though I don't know how well themed that actually is) and it seems like many of the potential brands are not necessarily common for local shopping mall. I for one am excited that a SHAKE SHACK is coming to Florida!

Still agree with others that the name stinks. "C'mon kids, let's go to the "Springs"!" Just not feeling it...
