Maitre’ d for restaurants?

Is there a Maitre’ d at each restaurant? Is there one that presides over all the restaurants? Who decides where we'll sit and whom we'll be seated with? How do I find the Maitre’ d when we board, so I can discuss our particular needs? It's my fathers 70th birthday and we'd like to make sure that they are well taken care of in the dining rooms. If you've got some good Maitre’ d advice, i would certainly be interested. Thanks to everyone for their help.

There is a "head server" who presides over several tables, who you could probably talk to if you wanted something taken care of, like a birthday or something. We found the serving staff though to be better able to remember things like that, drink preferences and special occasions and whatnot.

There seems to be about 4 head servers per restaurant, I believe they have a distinctive jacket to make them easy to spot. However, we rarely saw him, only for him to help our wait team celebrate the special occasion.

I know there is usually a meeting time for dining concerns, such as moving from early to late seating or vice versa and dietary concerns as well. If you find the location (listed in the navigator) you could probably go and make sure that your father is well taken care of, whatever that entails.

Tagolodad,
I've cruised with DCL three times and go on my 4th this Sat. I can tell you that there are 4 servers per dining room and from my experience, you will have a wonderful person who had the authority to help with any problems like special diet or celebrating an occasion on board. We have had so much fun with our servers and head servers that I can't even explain how much help they are. They should come to your table the first night and you can ask them for anything you need or want. They love to bring a cake or whatever to make your time special. Don't worry, Disney knows exactly what they are doing with the service on this ship!

As for changing your dining rotation or table, you go to Rockin' Bar D to talk to a person who can help you. That is also where yo go to make Palo ressies, so it's not hard to find, just follow the crowd, believe me there will be one!

Good luck, and relax, this will be the best service you will ever have!

First, make your desires known to DCL now. Either call them yourself (if you booked thru DCL) or call your TA (if you used one.)

DCL makes dining assignments in advance, so they can be printed on your KTTW card and on the dining ticket in your cabin. However, when you board, go to "dining changes." It is usually in Sessions on deck 3 on the Magic. The time will be noted on the paper you get when you board, but is usually 1 pm. The head servers are there making any changed necessary. Tell them what you want (take your tickets with you.) They will make any adjustments needed.

The head server is over 1/4 of the restaurant--there are 4 in each restaurant, and yes, they wear distinctive clothing. Your head server will introduce himself the first night, and is the person you contact for any issues you might have.

The service at DCL restaurants is superb. As to the birthday, there is a standard cake and singing (just note the birthday on your reservation). If you want something else, let them know. Candles are not allowed on the ship for fire safety reasons. Just about anything else is possible.
