This is the year we are determined to do it! Determined to spend a couple hours exploring the nooks and crannies of Main Street USA instead of the 5 minutes we usually spend grabbing food on the way out!
Any advice on unique shops/spots/sites would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Don't miss the shop with all the crystal. Like you we always motored down Main Street until a couple of years ago when we decided to see what we were missing. DH literally has to drag me out of the Candy Shop.

Look up and read all the windows...most of the names on them are from Disney past...very cool. And if you get there early in the morning, notice that the car barn, between the firehouse and the Emporium gift shop, is actually a stable...you can go in and see the horses getting ready for the day. And that smell coming from the bakery....it's piped in...supposed to smell like cookies. Make sure you visit Exposition Hall, in the back there are great places to take pictures and a pretty interesting movie that plays through out the day. Once in a while you even get to see a character or two in there. The train station itself it neat too, if you cut through it to the platform side overlooking Main Street, look in the office window, there are some neat little things in there. I'm sure there is a lot more, hopefully others will post too.

Take your time and smell the roses! :p

The barbershop! We let DS's hair get a little long before a trip to Disney and then go in for a Disney haircut. It is very authentic old stly barbershop. Lot's of fun and not much more than a regular haircut.

Be sure to go down the alley to the right (I think it's about 1/2 way up Main Street). Up on the second floor on the left side in the back of the alley is a window that says something about singing and dance lessons. Depending on the time of day, you'll probably hear either someone singing, or tap dancing. I think that sometimes I also heard a piano up there. Some of the CMs in that area aren't even aware of this little "Disney touch".

Cool stuff! Is the sing/dance lesson place something to walk into?
Is there anything on a second floor to explore....or everything is on the street?

Can you tell me where EXACTLY the Barber Shop is in Main St as none of us can remember seeing it on our past trips! Too busy running to the Emporium!

Thanks

The Barber Shop is located on the left side as you enter the park. Past City Hall, past the firehouse, then the stables are in the corner, and the Barber Shop is right next to the stables.

In the store on the right that sells kitchen stuff there is an old fashioned telephone on the wall - pick it up and you listen in on a conversation between mother and daughter discussing prices from way back!

Also, enjoy the names on the second story windows.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a room right inside the entrance that has the oscar's from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and the original 3D model of EPCOT in it?

Does anyone know if there is a book out describing all the extra magic at Main St., or WDW? I'd love to to know about these extras before returning to WDW.....I would have loved to hear the 2 women talking about prices and such. It sounds like fun!:)

I don't know where you may have grabbed food on your way out before, but make sure you stop in to Casey's. The food is great, and it's fun to sit and watch the old cartoons. Also, look around Casey's and in the sports store for really old games. All the ones we tried still worked.

Definatly try the Expo Hall. There are a couple of exhibits on photography and a movie theater showing Disney cartoons. And yes, characters do pop up here at certain times. I know I've always seen a couple of princesses here around 11 am. Also, be sure to check out the window displays at the Emporium. They're always well done and fun to look at.
