mailing packages to yourself at VWL and one more thing

we want to send ourselves a package for our trip. how do we do it and how far in advance of ouir trip?

also, we'll want a room close to the WL. should we fax a request or just ask for it when we check in? is there a specific kind of room/area we should request to get that?

I send packages in advance all the time......I usually use UPS since there is a UPS facility right near me and it's convenient. You can go to the UPS website (www.UPS.com) and somewhere on the US screen it will ask what you wish to do. If you know the approximate size and weight box you're going to be sending you can have a pretty good idea of cost. You can also play with the system to find out how far in advance you need to ship. For instance, I know we're arriving on Sat. 12/10 so I put in Wednesday 12/7 as my ship date, but, UPS won't deliver standard delivery until Monday 12/12. So, I go back and plug in Tuesday 12/6 and it will arrive on Friday 12/9. Just make sure you put the full address of VWL to the attention of the front desk and somewhere very visible on front Hold for: your name and check in date and if you wish your ressie #. I never use the ressie # just name and check in. The only time I had a problem was at BWV and that's because they sent it to the package center in the convention area. It took a few hours to track it down. Since I know my package will arrive on Friday, I go into UPS system and track it and on Friday evening I print out the confirmation that it's been received by the front desk at whatever resort we're staying. This way if I do have a problem I have proof that it's been received and signed for. My cost is usually about $20 to ship a 25 lb package. I throw in everything I don't want to buy at the grocery store there plus toiletries so I don't have to lug them on the flight. Makes our bags much lighter. Also, to make the box lighter I usually get rid of extra packaging on food items and put everything in Ziplocs. Spices for anything I'm planning to make get mixed together and put in a snack size Ziploc. Cereals go without the box, just the inner wax liner.

Wilderness Lodge does not accept faxes for room requests. If you are paying cash you need to make your requests with the Reservation Center. If you are a DVC member you would need to contact Member Services if you are staying on points. I don't know that there truly is a location at would be considered close to the lodge, except to ask for something close to the elevators as they are located at the entrance of the villa building.
