Hi. I am shipping a package to my hotel of some things that I need, like diapers, wipes, snacks, juice pounches and such and was wondering about water. Does it travel in a box ok? Does it add too much weight to the package making it too expensive? How much water do I send? We won't have a car so I won't be able to stop anyplace in Orlando to purchase any.

Thanks, in advance, for your ideas/input!

Water is pretty heavy. I plan to get a couple of Brita fill-n-go bottles on eBay before we leave and just filter the tap water. Last time we brought Nikken bottles but they were difficult to use. I think we are going to fill a suitcase with snacks. I'm not too worried about the extra bag and weight since with Magical Express we won't be handling the luggage very much.

UPS is not too bad for shipping heavy boxes if you really do want to ship some. Though some say Fedex is cheaper.

I would think water would be pretty expensive to ship. Maybe you could use a grocery service and have it delievered to your room? I know people also use office supply places when they want to ship water.

Maybe try a flat rate box where the weight won't matter...USPS Priority has those boxes for free.

Instead of doing that I would most definitely do the grocery service. We even had a car and still did the grocery service so as not to take away our precious time! Goodings is in Orlando and only charges $10 (last time we did it) and they deliver it to your room on your check in day! We even requested specific brands of diapers, formula, water, etc...and they were very nice and accomodating! It was perfect.

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

A while back someone mentioned that you can order water from some of the office supply companies (e.g., Staples, Office Max, Office Depot). I don't remember which one, but I went and priced it. A 24 pack of water was 6.49, and with shipped around $12 (2- 24 packs of water with shipping was just under $18). You order before the trip and have it shipped directly to your resort. The resort will hold until you check in (same as with a package you ship to yourself). I think this will be a lot cheaper than trying to ship it yourself. Of course, once I started down this path, I starting thinking about cereal, juice, soda, snacks, etc., and quickly reached the $50 minimum for grocery delivery (which has a $10 delivery charge) and went that route instead.

I never thought of this. This will be our first time bringing diapers, wipes, etc. I also usually bring water (I carry it on or pack in luggage). Do you ship the items to your resort to arrive the same day, or day before your arrival?

If you do the grocery delivery, where do you get the delivery from? Do they charge really high prices for everything in addition to the delivery charge? Do you arrange before you leave or call once you arrive?

In October we used we go shop of Orlando, http://www.wegoshop.com/states/florida/wgs-florida.htm and they were GREAT. The will shop at a regular grocery outside the tourist area for the best prices. In fact, after I had put together my list and faxed it to them, they decided where the best prices would be based on my list. I just went through the brands and sizes I usually purchase at home and indicated which items were ok to substitute a similar item. IIRC there is a $50.00 minimum and a deliver charge plus tip. I had my package deliverd to the AKL and waiting for me since I had a late arrival and wanted things that evening. Everything was correct and waiting for me at bell services when I arrived. Others are more comfortable accepting the delivery in person to inspect the items.

I would definately go this route again!

We've shipped water from Staples to our WDW resort twice. It was a really, really good deal. I think a 24 pack of water costs around $6. If you join the Staples reward program (not sure if that's the exact name or not), which is free, you get standard shipping for FREE!!!! We ordered 2 cases the first time last September and it cost about $12 total. We splurged and ordered three cases the second time for a whopping $18 total. I drink a lot of water so we figured that this little scheme saved us a ton of money.

We used www.wegoshop.com in Sept. and plan to use them again. I don't remember if there was a minimum but it seems like there was a $15 del. charge and we added a tip. I think shipping would cost at least $15. They will shop at whatever store you ask. I know from experience that Goodings is expensive.

I'm gonna look into staples. I looked into wego and may try that in the future, but I've already bought everything and don't want to buy it all again (every dollar helps :)). I was told it was $17 for items under $100, plus $2 gas surcharge and tip.

I also like the one rate US Postal Service boxes. Those are $8.10 to mail.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm gonna pop onto staples now.

Here is the info I got off of staples. .....I think I may go that route, only takes a day to ship, so I'll order Saturday (we check in on Monday)

If you order it from staples how far ahead of time?

Denise

I think it was maybe 5-7 days before our arrival. We errored on the side of our water sitting at the resort for a couple of days before our check in date rather than risk it not showing up for a day or two after our trip started. The entire process was very easy and VERY CHEAP!

You don't need to pay the shipping for Staples. Sign up for their rewards program and you will qualify for free shipping on any size order.

Staples Rewards Center

Sometimes it takes a while for the free shipping to kick in on your account. So you might want to call in your order and the rep can manually take off the shipping charge.

Wish I was going with you! I need a Mickey fix. :earsboy:

Thanks buckler! It lets you print your cards. So I will give it a try and order my water next week. Thanks tons! Think they have juice boxes too? :goodvibes

Sorry, no juice boxes. But they do have some snacks. Look under "Cleaning & Breakroom" then "Food & Beverages". Some of the products are sold in really large quantities but there are some smaller sizes of snacks you could take into the park.

Cool, aren't you clever! Now I just need someone to split the snacks with and I'd be set. Great find. Thanks! :thumbsup2

There is another thread going on the water. Someone mentioned ordering through a rewards program and I thought of another angle to save you some more money.

Copied from my other posting:
"You can earn 2% in rewards if you order from Staples through Upromise or Ebates. I do both programs but I prefer Ebates because they mail out checks automatically every quarter. If you are new to Ebates you can get a $5 bonus with your first order and $5 for future referrals.

Hey, that comes out to a pretty good deal on the water! $6.50 - $5 ebates bonus, even with tax it should be less than $2 for the case of 24 bottles shipped."
