I was in St. Maarten years ago and remember lying on this beach watching the planes land....does this still happen and are there other activities available, especially for kids? I'm trying decide between going there or Orient Beach. I know Orient Beach has the water trampolines, jet skiis, etc.. but I'm a little worried about the nudity....was thinking it might be fun to give Maho Bay Beach a try instead.

Anybody been there with kids and are there restrooms and restaurants?

Thanks in advance!

We spent a week at the Maho last year with our 4 kids - 12, 10, 8 & 5. There are no activities for them but the planes and the sand and the water kept them entertained for days! There are restaurants and washrooms.

We spent much of the day at Maho when we cruised in 2002 and we enjoyed it because we love planes and we waited 4 hours for the Air France 747 but it was too late and we had to get back to the ship so we never saw it.

I just wanted to warn you that the bar that's right on the beach where the restrooms and tables are located is more adult oriented than family oriented. In fact, topless women drink free there, so be prepared! We saw several topless women at the bar and on the beach while we were there.

In the week that we were there we did not see any nudety on the Dutch side. I was not thinking of the restaurant on the beach but if you go down the street towards the Maho itself and the casino there is a Subway and a few other restaurants and Cheri's Cafe is a really good place to eat.

We were all quite entertained by the jumbo jets and all the locals who try and motorbike through the jet thrusts and of course the tourists who think they can stand behind the jet thrusts and remain standing and still have all there possessions. There were alot of towels, hats, bags ect blown into the sea from that end of the beach. We kind of sat in the middle most days were you could get a bit of wind but not get blown away!

The Air France plane landed right in the middle of my DB wedding! We did not here much of the ceremony when it came in! It is an amazing thing to watch those big planes take off from such a short run way, you do not realize the angle they are at until you are the one in the plane!
