Magnets on Magic Doors?

Calling all recent Magic cruisers who did door magnets- did you have any problems with yours sticking? I've read a few trip reports now where it was said that magnets weren't sticking at all or curling/falling after a few days. I have been on 7 DCL cruises on all 4 ships and never had this happen using Staples brand magnet paper but now I'm worried! Is this common now on the Magic, maybe due to over-painting the doors for refurb, making them less magnetic? Anyone have a solution like bringing spare heavier magnets to hold them down?

My report may have been one you've already read, but my magnets printed on these Avery magnet sheets http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00006HN5Q/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 didn't stick well at all on the Magic in March 2013. I looked at what others had done that seemed to be staying up, and have just printed my own on photo paper, laminated them, and cut magnets from this and applied http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HY990G/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. In testing the magnet sheets compared to this new method on my frig at home, it's very clear that my newer method has much stronger magnets, so I'm very hopeful that they'll stay up well on my future Wonder cruises! :thumbsup2

Previously, I'd read that the Wonder had thickly painted doors and others had issues but hadn't read about that issue on the Magic, but my door seemed to be pretty freshly painted on the outside. The magnet sheets stuck just fine on the inside of the door, so that's where we put them so we could at least enjoy them ourselves when in the room.

Don't use the magnetic printer sheets - those did not stick at all - all of those fell off. The ones that I printed on cardstock - laminated - and put on the self stick magnets from Walmart stayed on fine. Besides that was the cheaper way to go anyway.

We did the same thing for our May cruise and had no issues with the magnets sticking.

Can you share what type of self-stick magnets you used? Was it the roll type that you cut off a piece and stick it to the corners, or were they individual round magnets pre-cut? What were their thickness? Mine are already printed on the staples magnetic paper I've always used so I'm panicking now. I need to figure out a backup plan to bring extra magnets I guess if they don't stick!

Not the Magic, but I was on the Wonder. At first, the self-adhesive magnets I used seemed temperamental depending on where on the door I tried to stick them. The doors slam shut, and when it did, all the magnets instantly fell off (this did not occur on the Dream). We got into the habit of making sure to softly close the door at all times, and our stateroom host did too. They stayed up the entire trip as result.

My Staples brand magnetic sheets did not stick well on the Wonder, either. They used to, several years ago. But by now, those doors have yet another layer or 3 of paint and they just don't stay up.

I really prefer the look of magnetic sheets rather than laminating and using self stick magnets-but I'll bring additional magnets to stick on back on future cruises on the classic ships. I'm looking forward to using my magnets and having them STICK on the Fantasy!
