Magnet thieves!

It makes me very sad that this is what our world has come to. It will make me MAD if anything of mine gets stolen. There is just no excuse for it! I am concerned about our FE gifts as well.

We had a picture of Ariel stollen off of our door on the Thanksgiving cruise. I had them printed on photo paper and used the Scotch brand adhesive that would stick to metal and painted metal to have them on the door. The key here is that you have to be careful when removing it, to prevent problems. Anyway, I guess that they were too worried about being caught that they pulled it and it peeled that paint off of the door a little bit. It was the size of a penny, but it still upset me that the paint was peeled off the door. AND I had our room number on it.

We put our cabin number very visably on all of our magnets. DH got extremely creative at the craft store and made a huge personalized -and really awesome-door magnet that I was concerned would be tampered with on our cruises. So far it has survived-even our last one that was very close to miship elevators! If you know you will be gone for an extended period-all day excursion for example -take your FE into your cabin. That way your DIS friends will come back if they are leaving presents and nothing gets stolen.
Stealing is a very sad thing.

We didn't have anything stolen from our door on our back-to-backs on the Wonder last summer but I DID personalize everything in some way or another. I either used my DIS name or our cabin number or something. Rather than theft what we DID have happen on our 3 nighter was someone kept writing profanity on the little dry erase board that we got as one of our FE gifts!! This happened multiple times!! (And it was the 'F' bomb too!!) We were forward on Deck 5 in one of the SPH rooms so there was not a whole lot of foot traffic passing by us. It happened at least 3 or 4 times.

We noticed that overall, the 3 night cruise was louder (more kids unattended and running / yelling in the halls) and even more casual than the 4 nighter...I doubt we will ever do another 3 nighter because of it.

I make tons of small magnets to change on our door each day according to the port/theme of the day. I used return address size blank computer labels and put our last name in 3 areas that I cut apart and put on the back of the magnets. I was going to use return address labels we get free and cut off our address, but it was easier to just do what I did. In 8 cruises we've only had our DVC "Welcome Home" magnet stolen and a Tink magnet stolen.

Wow, the magnets sound like such a cute idea. This might be a dumb question but how do I make my own magnets??? I am not the craftiest person but I'd love to have some personalized magnets for our upcoming cruise

I feel bad for those of you who had yours stolen. It is so disheartening when something like that happens. I'll never understand how someone could just steal something that doesn't belong to them!

The "magnets" most people refer to are really more like door signs. Smaller stuff is always more prone to walking off... I laminated the signs at Staples so they'd be more durable & they got a little reflection when I took the pics. I didn't laminate the little Mickey Head paint chips (from Home Depot) tho.

I help design and make magnets. We started putting on the back of them, "STOLEN FROM ............. " that seems to help them stay put.

But it does help to personalize each of your magnets.

Love that idea!!!

Great example! How big is the wooden circle that has the stateroom number on it? The ears are such a great idea and I want to make sure they look great like yours (not too big, not too small). THANKS!

I know what you mean but Disney is not immune to theft....we all like to think that everyone who goes on a DCL cruise is covered in pixie dust but, unfortunately, that is not the case.

There are sometimes thefts from rooms as well.....be prudent and lock up any valuables in the cabin safe. Often when the rooms are cleaned the doors are propped open (several at a time) so it can happen where someone can walk in a cabin and steal. Same at the pool/beach areas....just be aware and don't leave valuables unattended. Common sense stuff.

I'm also printing my magnets on magnet paper. I got a pack of 4 sheets for about $12-15 at Office Depot. It's been fun making enough magnets to fill 4 sheets!!

When we were on our wonder cruise last Easter I left a note for a family up the hall from us saying how much I loved their mickey head magnets. When we came back to our room later that day we found a note stuck in our fish with how to make the magnets and a bunch of them on our door.

To us it was pure magic and pixie dust

I had a ton of magnets on our Sept.'08 Wonder cruise. I left them on the door the whole time, no switching out. They were left alone...not even moved! I did have our room # on the front of each one and wrote a "shame on you " little note on the back of each one..just in case

My FE was taken from my door on our Nov cruise. Luckily I was in the room and heard the noise. I did have a plastic tie on it, unfortunately they slid it down because I had left it loose enough to cut off. I opened my door, saw 3 12-14 yo boys and yelled to them "Where is it?" They played dumb and I told them I heard them taking it, one finally said it was hanging a few doors down. I then told them "You'd better start running, because if I see anyone who works here I was going to turn them in". They took off quickly, fortunately for them I didn't have my glasses on and wouldn't have been able to identify them if I did see them again, but I bet they were pretty worried if they saw me again!!! I did find my FE a few doors down where they said it was, and immediately packed it as it was Fri afternoon and all the deliveries had taken place. Just make me mad that you do so much to make things more magical for your kids, then other peoples kids come along and try to ruin it for them.
