With the help of so many wonderful folks on these boards , I had a great collection of mangnets! I displayed them quite proudly on my Feb 7th Western Cruise.

Well it seems someone else also admired them to the point of stealing them on last night of cruise!!!! WE had two staterooms so
I had two sets of ears over room number. They took the left ear off one door and the right ear off the other.
Each door had a nice nice DCL addict sign, they took those as well. Basically anything that wasn't personlized was taken! What a creepy thing to do! If they would've asked for them, I probably would have just given them away. Anyhoo, just wanted to recommend that people remove their magnets when they put luggage in the hall! I waited til am of departure day to pull them off... to late to stop the magnet thief! Sorry for vent, needed to share. My trip was VERY Magical! Thankfully.

I don't think it matters when you take the magnets off. We cruised in Jan. and my friend just brought a couple of really old mickey magnets she got from DisneyWorld when she was little. She did it more for her kids to be able to recognize which cabin was theirs. Anyway, 1st night of the cruise...GONE! She was SOOOOOOO upset. She had those magnets for like 20 years! The stateroom hostess told her that happens all the time, unfortunately.

I've heard stories like this before. I spent a lot of time making my magnets and I'm trying to personalize almost all of them to discourage thieves! My stateroom is near the midship elevators too so I expect a good deal of traffic going by my room.

I REALLY want to do magnets but this is the very reason why I might not.

I have a cabin that is near the stairs and the elevator so I'm sure it's a prime location to be picked off.

And I don't feel super comfortable to personalize them... it just makes me feel funny to have our names on the door.

I had plenty of magnets for our cruise last Sep. I did personalize many with the last name (you know - the XX family vacation, etc). I also had small magnets I made of the characters. I made extra of these in anticipation of having them disappear throughout the cruise. As it turned out, I never had to dig in to my extra supply. All my magnets stayed put including the small character magnets. I did take them down the last night just before dinner and put up one lone magnet that basically said goodbye and thanks for a wonderful trip.

I only had one incident that was kind of funny. We were leaving for breakfast one morning near the end of the week and I saw a grandmother with her grandson just outside the cabin across from us. The grandson was marveling over the magnets on their door and the grandmother was wondering where they had come from. Well, it took a minute but I realized that they were all my magnets! Seems pranksters had fun overnight and just moved all my magnets across the hall. We had a nice laugh and the magnets were returned to their rightful door. I checked with my son who occupied the cabin next door (since he would occassionally like to turn my magnets upside down) but he swore it wasn't him!

Actually because of the heavy traffic in these areas you typically will have almost none of yours stolen..and of course if you do personalize them and you dont' want to use your name..then do what we do and simply add your cabin number to them. :thumbsup2 And no matter what even if they do get stolen DO NOT let it ruin your awesome cruise. ;)

I had door decorations (magnets and such) taken from my door on my last few cruises.....this past cruise last month someone kept rearranging my mickey ears on the door (which I didn't mind as it as playing around) but I was ticked my other stuff was taken on my other cruises.

I even had personalized stuff taken....that is creepy. From now on I will probably only decorate my door if we kids in our group.

On my trip report from Oct 08 ( http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1993791 in post #3) I talked about how a lot of little kids wanted a magnet or two that I made. I was tickled that they all wanted what I did. I "lost" a few and gave out many more. On my next cruise, I will be prepared and make plenty of magnets to give out to all those who want them.

I never looked at the ones that were taken as stolen - just some other children wanting to make their cruise as great as they could. I will definately make some to share with all the other cruisers on our deck!!!

We also had one stolen from our door last year. I had magnets for Pirate day. It was the sliver mickey head with the patch over his eye. The coolest one and the only one that I couldn't put our name or room number on. So I decided to leave a note where that magnet had been. I wrote " To whoever took our pirate magnet..thank you..that was real DISNEY of you!" In a couple of hours it was put back with a note stating Pirate Pete strikes again. I wasn't amused but happy that it was returned!!!

This is truly sad...I cant believe people would steal things that dont belong to them. A lot of time and effort goes into making them.

Magnets are easier to realize when they have been taken but the FEs are another thing that have been targeted. You need to check them pretty regularly on some cruises where a lot of people are participating in the exchange.

Wow, well you definitely have a better attitude than I do. Or rose-colored glasses. Because, in my neck of the woods, when people, adults OR children take something, it is called stealing.

And, if they do not have magnets on their door, I hardly consider them deprived of a great vacation.

I am hoping that in our location, we will not receive much traffic.

And I don't feel super comfortable to personalize them... it just makes me feel funny to have our names on the door.

We used first names only... such as "Princess Avery" and "Tucker is Swimming with the Fishes!" We did not have anything tampered with.

Since the magnets are very cheap to make, I make tons and switch them out each day. Then the ones that are pretty generic, I find another door futher down the hall and stick it on theirs, or decorate the stateroom doors next to mine. No one has ever seemed to mind and they leave them up. I had someone knock and ask if they could have one...well they asked where I got it, and how they would just LOVE to have it, so I gave it to her.

I help design and make magnets. We started putting on the back of them, "STOLEN FROM ............. " that seems to help them stay put.

But it does help to personalize each of your magnets.

wow.........

Not sure why someone would take someone elses magnet....pretty sad.....we had nothign removed from out cruise but we were 2 cabin from teh front.

I love the idea of stickong on the back "Stolen from..."

cheers

I agree with mmackeymouse. If a child is too young to understand the fact that it's stealing, they shouldn't be alone in the first place. If a child is old enough to be by themselves, they know it is stealing and it shouldn't be considered okay just because they want their door decorated too. And when the parents find out, they should immediately insist that the magnets be returned and an apology.

Not only did we have our magnets stolen on our last cruise, but 2 nights in a row someone other than a CM took our room service tag from the door. There were a lot of teens strolling the halls at all hours. I guess they had a combo of no manners/nothing better to do syndrome.

Wow! I hope that doesn't happen on our cruise. Where possible, I put my cabin number on the front of our magnets. All the magnets have our last name and cabin number on the back.

Definintely a good idea about taking them down before we put our luggage out on the last night.
