Why does the Off-Topic guy have to look so mean anyway???

I just thought I'd share DS8's first school project. He is in third grade and this year is when they start with a few little projects. Their very first one is to build a 'Pig House'. They have been reading a series of what are called Fractured Fairy tales about the Three Little Pigs. It's just cute little alternate stories about the Three Little Pigs. So at the end of the series they are to build a pig house to keep the wolf out and write a 10-15 sentence report from the pig's perspective about how/why his house will keep the wolf out!

Well, DS had it in his mind that he was going to build a 'Pig Castle', but keep it boyish of course (as boyish as a castle can be)! And here it is~

He did all of it himself, except I helped him glue on all those popsicle sticks and DH helped him with the drawbridge string. I remember from when DS11 was in third grade, some kids will come in with big huge elaborate pig houses that obviously their parents built. Which is so irritating. But I also remember DS11 getting an A+ on his little made-by-himself pig house! So I don't know what parents are hoping to gain by doing it for them.

Anyway - just wanted to share DS's 'Pig Castle' with you all!!

I helped my DS's mostly suggestions and supervised but I always had a fear of them coming home in tears if theirs did not get a good mark. My own mother never believed in helping me and one year my project for the science fair (grammer school) ended up in the back room with the other rejects, only the best ones were put on display, my best friends father had just about done hers entirely and there it sat proudly for all to see

That's what I hate about school projects. Some kids don't have parents that are interested in helping them, or the resources to do so. And other parents are so competitive that they do the whole dang thing.

Well, all that plus last year when DS11 had to do a project on the Mexican-American War and was told he could use his Lego's and half of them came up missing while it was on display.

First off, hope you find the GC's for your son's bday. That will be terrible if you can't get one. You might ask customer service if they have any in the back. Bowling............... that willl be fun.

The whole menu for F&W looks soooooo good. Except the Escargot from France and the Mussels from Belgium. ewwwwww. Mark talks all the time about how good the mussles were when he lived in Belgium- so I'm sure they will be good. But they gross me out. Will you get anything???

LOVE the pig castle!!!! Great job!!!!!! Tell him that Belle would love to have a castle for her pig- the stuffed animal that I bought for her last year when she came down with the Swine.
His name is "King Louis, the Woo-Pig-Fluie, Hamthrax The Great". She adores pigs. I can't wait to show her the castle. Very talented, that boy!!! (I personally love the sharks- they add a special element of "Oh crap, don't fall into the water".)

I knew you would like the F&W menu. Epcot and food, what could be better? Will I get anything??? Well, actually there is very little on that huge list I would eat! The cheese fondue with croutons and roasted potatoes sounds good. . . Not sure what else yet. . . Maybe a strawberry or chocolate dessert!

I forgot about Belle's piggy. I bet she will like the pig castle! Yes, and as if the sharks weren't enough to keep the wolf out he had to add the 2 army men.

We never did our kids' projects for them, but I can't say we didn't "help". Usually it was because the thing was due the next day and they had barely started. I'll never forget one year when my DS was in 5th or 6th grade, and he had to do an Indian diorama. Of course he had waited until the last minute, plus he had a football game that afternoon. And we know that football takes precedence over academics in the South. So of course I'm helping him that night, but only with the hot gluing. Well, to this day I still have a little scar on one of my fingers from the hot glue gun. Lesson learned.

I agree with you on the escargot and mussels. Just the word mussels sounds gross. And I eat some things others would call gross! I guess it's what you grew up on.

I couldn't imagine standing in Once Upon a Toy in DTD waiting on him to spend $500. We are usually in there for what seems like forever when he only has $100 to spend.
