"Magical" fireworks compared to regular fireworks?

Hi,

The dis blog shows the "Magical" fireworks show that started in 2009 is coming back starting May 4th. I read a little about how it features classic characters like Pinocchio, Mary Poppins and (SPOILER) that Dumbo flies (in addition?) to Tinkerbell.

What is the "regular" fireworks show like that they have been running during the winter months?

The "Magical" show sounds pretty nice and we plan to see it.

Has anyone seen both fireworks shows to compare them?

The "regular" show is Remember...Dreams Come True, that was created for Disneyland's 50th. It's hosted by Julie Andrews and features music from attractions,etc from around the Park.

Remember Dreams Come True is far and away the best fireworks show at either DL or WDW. I wish they would show it year round. Magical is good and to me better than Wishes but most say Wishes is better than Magical. Magical's soundtrack is sung by Edina Espinoza from Wicked Musical fame. It is a great soundtrack. I believe she was born in Anaheim which makes it special as well. Her voice is amazing. Magical has the same elements of RDCT in the fact that Tinkerbell flies around the castle but to me it doesn't have the same nostalgia feeling that RDCT has. Anytime you incorporate Walt's speech into something you got me hooked. I think that's why I liked Parade of Dreams so much.

I would say that Magical is a good fireworks show and RDCT is great fireworks show.
RDCT is a more expensive show and usually just runs on weekends. Magical runs every night during the summer so I imagine that is a reason why RDCT doesn't run during the summer months.

Okay, now I'm a little lost. "Magical" will be playing when we go. Is that particular show projected onto the castle or Small World?

I'm sure it makes a difference where you stand. If it's on SW, where do they set off the fireworks? Do they completely leave out the castle?

That video I believe is from before when Dumbo was added. Dumbo just started to fly in the show last Summer.


Where did you see that Magical will start on May 4th? I know it's on the schedule, but that would be an early start to show something that is unique for the Summer promos.

Also keep in mind that Dumbo can get very shy (aka, not fly) due to wind. Not heavy, massive strong wind, but just enough wind that it can be a problem (you know, those ears can catch even the slightest wind pretty well! ).

In other words, Dumbo flying across the sky is pretty amazing and I get a chill down my spine when I see it, but I live locally and have seen the show many a times with no Dumbo. Do not have your heart set on that element, just in case.

It was posted on the top of the disboards dated for 3/30/12. I was shocked too that it was starting so early. I wonder if they made a mistake and it should be June 4th?

That video of Magical that I have videotaped back in August last year which Dumbo didn't fly due to high winds that day.

Just as the other DISers have said that Dumbo only flies on days when it is not so windy.

Here is my video of Magical that I videotaped on the first day last year on May 27, 2011. This one has Dumbo flying in the sky that night. Magical Fireworks at Disneyland 5/27/11

That video I believe is from before when Dumbo was added. Dumbo just started to fly in the show last Summer.

Dumbo was part of Magical fireworks when it debut in the summer of 2009 also with the updated F!.


I was also surprised to see Magical running on May 4th. I would assume that they made a mistake and it should be close to late May or early June.

The hours on the Disneyland website WERE being a little wacky, but it looks like they've settle down enough now to trust them, so I added it here on the DIS.

Hours are out for the first 2 weekend and Magical is showing on both of them.

When will Magical go through and change back to RDCT?

Back and forth over our dates - late May versus late August - and have finally decided on late August.... will it still be Magical then??
That's the one we want to see.
Have seen neither... but judging from youtube vids of both.. while RDCT seems to be a better show, more fireworks.... it's Magical that we really want to see - just the music used for it and looks so pretty - and wind permitting if Dumbo flies, yes, it would be the icing on the cake!

But a last week of August trip.... is it definite it will be Magical and not RDCT?

It's hard to say right now. Soon the Summer promotion should begin and let us know.

In the past Summer ended about after the third week of August. Last year the extended the Summer Season through Labor Day week.
