Magical Express

You should be ok. Make sure you have the ME tags on your luggage. When you get to the airport just go to the town car and take it right to The Contemporary. When your done with dinner, go check in. The luggage doesn't go on the bus it takes a truck ride with Luggage only. Disney offers ME so that you don't get a rental car and it somewhat forces you to be on there property and spend your money there. Since the town car is just taking you to Disney, your still making there business people happy and following the business intent of there policy.
If you miss a ADR because of unforeseen travel, Disney will typically wave the fee. At least they did for us. Just call them as soon as you know it will not work out. This gives a standby a chance to get in.

Have a great time.

P.s.
The one fall back with not using the ME bus but having RAC move your luggage is that they don't know how many pieces of luggage you had. If the airline mis routed one of them, you would not know for a while which could be a hassle. It doesn't happen much but just FYI. One good way to help that, that I saw was put numbers on the tags in ink. Like 1 of 4, 2 of 4. Etc... This can tell them how many they should have.

The issue could be that they have carryon luggage if I remember correctly. I actually think that's the only luggage they will have..so if they go to the CR directly, they will have to store their bags there, tip the Bell Services people, and then get those bags to AoA after eating...which means a cab since you aren't supposed to take luggage on the Disney buses.

Thanks for the carry on detail. I didn't see that. That makes it more challenging. At this point they may want a rental car for one day, do what they need to and return it over at the Swan and Dolphin. Would be cheaper and faster. Everything else I can think of would have a policy in place that would stop it. I.e. I was think of putting the ME tags on the carry ons after you get to MCO and give them to ME but then just sneak out the side for the town car to Chef Mickey. When you get to AoA your bags should be there. Could that work for them?

This will be our first trip and we're excited about the ME bus. I was wondering, how soon do you find out if your luggage hasn't made it? That's my only concern.

I don't know the specific answer to your question, but I can tell you that when one of my bags didn't make it, it was handled very well. On that trip we just happened to be starting our vacation at US and were headed to the HRH, so we claimed our luggage ourselves. From realizing the bag was missing to having it delivered to the HRH only took about 4-5 hours. And they kept in touch with me the whole time. So I would imagine if there is an issue you will find out quickly.

And FWIW, I fly on average every 2-3 months and this was the only time I ever had a problem, so chances are you will be fine.

But this has nothing to do with ME or the PP's question. :confused3

CBowman... YOU will find out there's a missing bag when the other bags get delivered to your room... within 3 hours of checking in to the resort. However, if (as ME is designed to allow you to do) you check in, head to a park, dining, shopping, etc, it could be many hours before you get back to your room and notice there is a bag missing.

The good news is DME will already know you are missing a bag (because you tell them (I think) when you check in at MCO how many bags there should be), and will work with the airlines on your behalf to get the bag to you.

You should ALWAYS (whether using ME or not, or for that matter even going to Disney or not) pack enough necessities for the first 24 hours in your carry on bag.

FWIW, I often have a "lost" bag, but because I follow the carry on rule above, and "cross pack", it's not a problem to get a bag hours late (or even the next day).

I was simply trying to reassure the PP that MCO handles lost bags very efficiently as opposed to some other airports (JFK, for example) as it's the person's first time traveling into Orlando. Sorry for being OT.

Curious...what airline do you use that your bags are often lost?

See, I didn't get from your post that you were complimenting (for lack of a better term) MCO. Anyway, isn't the airline who handles lost bags?

To answer your question... Delta. I've always gotten my bag, and they've delivered it to wherever I am (as they should IMO), and a couple times I've been an hour from my destination airport.
