Magical EBTA 2017

Hello all,

Thanks for sharing all your thoughts and ideas about the upcoming transatlantic cruise. There is a wealth of information shared by all of you that really helps us to get off to a good start with planning.

My two daughters (aged 5&7) and I will be joining you all on our first transatlantic cruise and 3rd Disney cruise. On our previous trips I had a hard time convincing the girls to leave the ship in ports so I figured a transatlantic cruise with many sea days would suit them perfectly.

We would love to join the Pin Trade and FE although we are new to the board and need to post first :-)

We are looking forward to meeting you all soon!
:welcome:To the Disboards and this thread!

Yes, it is wonderful to have all this time on the ship!

Don't know if any of you are flying out of Washington Reagan, but I just booked airfare for 5/12/17 at 8:44 am non stop for $45 per person on American.

Wow! That's great!

Is anyone interested in a WDW meet the night before? Could be at a resort with a lounge? Perhaps at the Contmporary outside deck to see wishes.

I think we have no time for a meet the night before. We arrive on 8th May late in the evening and the following 4 days we want to visit each WDW park. Moreover we want to do Disney Springs, Outlet centers. But I think we have enough time to meet on the cruise. :-)

We are staying at Vero Beach DVC the night before the cruise. Our son and his family live in Vero, so perfect to spend some time with them.

Excursions for the Ponta Delgada, Portland, Dover and Copenhagen ports are now available on the Disney Cruise site for any of you who weren't aware:) Just waiting on Amsterdam :)

I think that the Port Adventures of Dover are not complete yet. In my opinion there is a limited number of Port Adventures to London.
Hope that there will be more and I am really interested in the Port Adventures of Amsterdam. I work there en live in a city nearby.

We will be joining you on this cruise! My mom, my kids and I are using this as our summer "road" trip. We're just using the big blue road. ;) It's my first cruise and I am a little lost, but we're good at going with the flow and this seems much easier to plan than the Disney trip the kids, my husband and I took last year!

One big questions- the day before we embark, is my son's 7th birthday. At Disney World this qualifies as getting special treatment for his birthday. Is it worth mentioning this for this trip?

I have never been in Copenhagen before. So I cannot give any advise about Copenhagen.
There are cheap flights from Copenhagen to Amsterdam with SAS Airlines and KLM. With luck you can book a ticket for less than 100 euro.
It is save to travel in Western Europe on your own.
You can easily spend more than ony 9 hours in Amsterdam. There is a lot to see in the Netherlands and you can travel to easily by train or rental car.
The Dutch Pancakes are fabulous. We are used to it and it is really different from the pancakes in the USA.
I do not know the free walking tour but it takes you to the famous spots in Amsterdam. But it will be quick visits with ony 2.5 hours for the tour.
When you lijke meseums, we have famous ones in Amsterdam like the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Musuem. Only these 2 can take more than one day.

Saw also your post about dancing. My wife (also on the cruise) is an experienced Ballroom and Latin dancer. She has more than 30 years dancing classes.

Rudisdey,

Thank you for your insight and tips on traveling through Europe. I will definitely make sure to have a Dutch Pancake while I'm in Amsterdam.

And your wife sounds way out of my league when it comes to dance skills. It sounds like she should be the one teaching the dance classes on the cruise...

Definitely mention his birthday! There should be a surprise for him.

Hope that the Port Adventures of Amsterdam will be published soon.
And about dancing: maybe we will meet on the cruise and she give you a private lesson.

We are renting a car in Orlando. Are there any suggestions on how to get from the rental return in Cape Canaveral back to the port. (will drop off luggage and passengers first)

Good to know! We were at Disney World last year (first trip for our family there) on the week leading up to my daughter's birthday and he was SO jealous that on the last day (her actual birthday) he told the waitress, "My birthday is in a month, can I get a birthday cupcake and stand up for the birthday song, too?" They of course obliged him, but it was so sweet that he let her have the whole week of being sung happy birthday with no complaint, but he knew that brunch at Chef Mickey's was hi last chance. hahaha

Not sure of which rental company you are using- we use budget and they provide a shuttle back to the port- quick and easy :)

We use Avis, they provide a shuttle to the port.

I rented a mini van with Alamo as it was so much cheaper than others. I looked closer and there is a shuttle. I think the issues that I had read are because it sounds like Disney doesn't let the shuttles run early so if you want to get to the port before that time, you have to take a cab.
