Hi all Needing some help understanding this dining plan. It is our first family vacation to WDW and naturally our first time using the dining plan. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong or not, we were able to book HDD table service for our first night. However it seems every restaurant I want to use an entitlement for now does not accept it (Sci-Fi diner for example) I’m super confused on which restaurants i can and cannot eat at? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Where do you want to eat? Sci Fi is a TS restaurant and does accept the DP, it's 1 credit

I booked Sci-fi for March using dining plan without any problem. You might want to make sure that your resort reservation is linked to your MDE account properly. It will still ask for a credit card for guarantee even if you have the dining plan. What kind of response is it giving you when you try to book?

Right after we booked Hoop-Dee-Doo we tried to reserve Sci-fi. When we booked HDD there was a spot to click pay with credit card on file or use a dining credit, which we picked use dining credit. When we went to book Sci-fi there is no place to pick dining credit, only credit card.

Even with the dining plan, for regular TS restaurants, you need to give a credit card for them to charge if you no show. When you get to the restaurant, they will charge your dining plan. The credit card is just to hold your reservation.

I was thinking that but why will some restaurants have the option to use your card or dining credit to reserve, and others have credit card only reserve option?

What I always do is phone to make our TS ADRs. You get a live person to speak to, and it's helpful if what you want is booked up, but available on a nearby date or time. They can even suggest alternatives for the time and date you want. Call 407-WDW-DINE (939-3463).

All Disney TS restaurants accept the dining plan. The few exceptions would be the small plates venues such as Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge at Hollywood Studios, and Spice Road Table and Tutto Gusto at Epcot.

Some or most require a CC to book, and you'll be charged $10/pp for no show. If at least one of you shows up, they won't charge the penalty. OK to cancel up to 11:59 pm the day before. However, they will work with you for an unexpected emergency or family illness. Dinner shows such as HDDR require 48 hour cancellation (11:59 pm two days before) and you pay for the event when you reserve it. For dinner shows, you will lose your entire prepayment for no-show.

Thanks for the info, I will call and talk to a live person. It’s nice to know all TS take the dining plan, I was thinking because it’s only the dining plus that most TS restaurants would be excluded?

Thanks everyone for your responses.

The restaurants that you have to pre pay for will give the option to use dining plan credits or credit card to reserve. The regular TS restaurants do not require prepayment so there is not an option to use dining credit to reserve. They will charge you the credit when you eat there. Like everyone said the credit card is for the no show charge you get if you don't cancel and don't show up. (I think it's $10 a person no show fee.).

That makes sense. Thanks! :thumbsup2

It's the opposite of your thoughts... just about everything on Disney property is covered by the DDP, with the exceptions I noted previously. This makes it tough to decide, because there's so many choices that your head starts spinning after awhile. Especially if you show your family the menus and they pipe in what they like, which you might not like.

You can get menus from allears.net and wdwinfo.com, as well as on the Disneyworld website. You're covered for entree which usually always comes with a side, non-alcoholic beverage and dessert. At the top of this forum is the 2014 confirmed snack thread and the 2014 dining plan cost and brochure. The 2015 plan will be released before the end of the year, and info will grow as time goes on. Not everything for 2015 will be listed in 2014 because non-Disney-owned restaurants have to sign new contracts, which they don't do until year-end. But basically, if you see a snack in 2014, it'll be there in 2015. If you see a restaurant in the 1TS or 2TS category in 2014, it'll be there in 2015 as well.
