Magic Kingdom Rope Drop Procedure: Provide Updates Here Please (since June 2014)

How do I find out when extra magic hours are? When I go to disneys website and look at the dates of the 9/16 and 9/17 it doesn't list them as having extra magic hours for MK under park hours so where can I look to find this info out?

I think I was using the itinerary part of MDE. Touring Plans website also has hours, including EMH.

We are planning days according to EMHs in am. Do they still do opening ceremonies on those days that the parks open at 8. Im thinking we will try to be at gates for 7:30 am

So I've never done rope drop before but been told that if you’re headed to Tomorrowland or Fantasyland, you want to be on the right. If you’re headed to Adventureland or Liberty Square, you want to be on the left. Is this good advice?

Yep :)

We were at RD yesterday and I'm sorry to report it is just as bad. We were there at 8 for 9 AM opening. They let us in up to the train station. The opening show was a bit early, but it was awful.

There was a couple dozen people in front of us. The number of people that dangerously pushed past us and cut in front was just dangerous.

What terrible example to set for your kids.

When they did the same type of rope drop at DH it awful. Only until they let people on more orderly right from the gates was it tolerable but that would be hard to do with the opening ceremony then it hit me.

Open the turnstiles right at opening so there is no chaos and have the train pull up for the opening ceremony. That would slow down a good number of people who will stop to watch while guests can walk to where they want without being trampled.

Rope drop is disgusting now.. We were there this past week and did our typical early ADR at Hollywood and vine then planned our casual walk towards toy story mania.. Boy were we wrong. We were corralled into a large gathering for the opening ceremony with Olaf and while we were fine with this because we were up front we didn't realize we would soon be trampled over as the CMs try to slowly walk the heard though the park. I use the words corral and heard because it was exactly like hearing cattle through a corral with the brainless cows bumping and pushing their ways over the smaller ones.
I'm not a small dude at all frequently being called the hulk, etc due to my size and dedication to the gym and fitness lifestyle but trying to casually walk over to toy story mania while having overly excessive mass trample over me was not fun. My wife decided to be quicker about it and swiftly maintain her spot in the front not allowing the oversized people push past her or my 5yr old but he ended up taking some brutal jabs from the lards.

I can't be wdw would ruin rope drop with this mess.

I get that you are frustrated, but is it ever appropriate to refer to other human beings as "lards" or keep pointing out that you seem to think every person in the crowd who isn't your family is disgusting and obese?

I'm a bit worried about rope drop with our little ones this year. We usually bring the stroller so they can nap and to keep them safe in crowds. I'm concerned we will get stuck in place with the stroller. Has anybody navigated this with a stroller? A double stroller?

The rope drop show has been at. 8:40 with the park opening before 9 for published 9am openings this summer.

Yes! We were really bummed about this. As necessary, we made an ADR for Crystal Palace for 8:10am at our 180 day mark (this past Jan.) Then all this A&E stuff started happening and they changed rope drop. Our original plan (as is the plan of many early CP ressie makers) was to eat and get to Fantasyland before 9:00 so we could ride a few standby rides right at 9 and make our FP ressies starting around 10:15. I was really annoyed that this wasn't going to happen now but figured we'd still have fairly short waits...wrong! By the time we finished at CP (sever took FOREVER to 'cash us out!') it was about 9:10. At that point standby lines for Peter Pan, Pooh, HM, and Dumbo were over 20-30 min.

For future reference, I always recommend paying for the breakfast buffets soon after being seated. We got caught waiting like that once. Never again.

That is GREAT advice!! I will keep that in mind for next time :)

We started this by our second day for all our meals after waiting over 30 minutes for the 'Ohana check.

(BTW your signature and those dresses??? AMAZING!)

I really hope they change rope drop before a kiddo gets hurt. It's a hurt kid and a lawsuit waiting to happen. :sad2:

Thank you! :goodvibes

And I agree about rope drop. Sure doesn't sound like a magical way to start the day.

Hi,

We plan to do an EMH rope drop at 8 am in Magic Kingdom on 10/23. Our plan is to stay to the right and veer off to Tomorrowland after we pass The Plaza to ride Space Mountain and head over to Fantasyland for Peter Pan during the EMH hour. Then be in line at Liberty Square for Haunted Mansion at regular park opening.

For the 8 am opening, we plan to be waiting for the bus at 6:45 am at Beach Club.

Does this plan seem doable with how rope drop is in it's current state? Am I giving us enough time to get there to get a decent spot and see the opening show?

Was there on May 29th for park opening. We were just outside the tunnel under the train station so while not up front, not near the middle or back. We walked down Main Street in a very large group but with no issues from seeing where we were stepping. Our only issue was the mother screaming at her husband and child already while wildly pushing her stroller. At the Hub the rope dropped and guests headed to each land including many going through the castle to the Frozen girls. We went by the Rose Garden and Teacups to get in line for the mine train. Within 20 minutes the line for Anna & Elsa was 300 minutes so I guess most were heading there. After hearing horror stories we were very pleased and comfortable with the procedure.

Sending everyone through the castle makes no sense whatsoever when many who were there were going elsewhere.

Is this a typical crowd at rope drop picture?? Never been to one and seeing that picture now never will.
