I am trying to get a comprehensive list of Walt Disney World rides that keep the same building/track layout etc. but then overlay a new attraction. The immediate example that comes to mind is Buzz Lightyear used to be If You Had Wings.

Which rides come to mind?

I can see where Disney would like to work with this approach since it saves money and doesn't require major new construction.

Extraterrestrial Encounter became Stitch's Great Escape

The Living Seas was refurbed to be The Seas with Nemo & Friends

Not sure about the track staying the same, but Pooh is where Mr. Toad's used to be. Someone correct me on this about the track?

Isn't the old Snow White building where the princesses meet now? Not sure if that counts but.....

Universe of Energy in Epcot became Ellen's Energy Adventure

Test Track in Epcot stayed a Test Track, but is totally different then it was.

Journey into Your Imagination at Epcot had about half the ride (and most of the imagination) cut and became Imagination.

El Rio del Tiempo in World Showcase was renovated to Gran Fiesta Tour starring The Three Caballeros

Some of it might be the same but Toad used to have 2 separate tracks. So Pooh is definitely different.

And before ET Encounter, it was Mission to Mars.

Body Wars to Star Wars.... I think

Nope. they were active at the same time. Body Wars officially closed in 2008/9 (I think). Star Tours opened right around 1990. They operated together for 15 years. Although Body Wars was "Seasonal" starting in 2004/5.

I don't think there has been any new structures in Tomorrowland since Space Mountain went up.

Buzz uses the same track layout (including the speed room) from the previous attraction.
Monsters Inc is in the same circular room as circle vision.
Stitch uses the same two room as was there since the original attraction opened.

In Fantasyland Mickey's Philharmagic is the same theater as the original Mickey Mouse revue followed by Lion King (I think).

At times it appear Disney has some sort of aversion to actually BUILDING new attractions rather than slapping on a new coat of paint and redecorating and calling it new.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to a field to a meet and greet to the new Fantasy Land

But before that it was World of Motion.

Innoventions used to be Communicore East and West.

Toy Story Midway Mania at DHS was Who Wants to Be a Milionaire, and before that it was actual sound stages you could see on the Backlot Tour.

Disney's Hollywood Studios used to be GGM Studios.

Actually....

If You Had Wings ---> If You Could Fly --> Dreamflight --> Take Flight --> Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin

There was also another 3D movie at philharmagic before philharmagic replaced it. Who wants to be a millionaire was actually where American Idol is now if I am not mistaken.

Although the attraction area is in the same place,
World of Motion was demolished to build Test Track.

Same with Mission:SPACE vs. Horizons.

I seem to recall there was a period where they showed Magic Journeys in that theater. That's the 3D movie that was originally shown in the Imagination pavilion at EPCOT before Captain EO and then Honey I Shrunk the Audience and then Captain EO again.
