Magic Kingdom Playset?

I'm putting this in a few forums - not sure where it belongs exactly.

Is there such a thing as a Magic Kingdom Playset? Not just the castle, I mean with Dumbo, Peter Pan, Small World, etc?
I've found some older ones on e-bay - I think they may have been "Polly Pocket" related - the castle looks pink, train runs around it, but I cannot recall seeing anything like this when we were there in May.
My son "builds" his version of the Magic Kingdom with blocks, but I think he'd LOVE to have a set of the real thing - especially something Small World related.

So if anyone knows of such a thing, I'd appreciate it.
TIA!

I'm not aware of any playset that has all the attractions as you mentioned. There have been various attraction reproductions but no scale model of MK has ever been offered. Some excellent collector pieces are currently being produced but couldn't be considered as a playset.

The first Disneyland Playset was made by Marx in the late 50's, early 60's. In 1988, the Sears Christmas Catalog featured a reissue of the set, with some deletions, and some additions from the original. Expect to pay around a grand for the original complete set with box.

The Sears set was sold thru 1989 and can be found on E*** occasionally. Not real expensive. Hey, there's the Dumbo attraction!

Sears also offered this playset for the younger kids.

This was a very strange offering from the same year. More of a model kit than playset, it was cardboard buildings with plastic trim and pieces, light up lamp posts, and a LOTS of accessory packs. Once built, it could not be taken apart easily. Then what do you do with it?

Wow thanks for that cool information. Is there anything close to a scale model of Magic Kingdom that is out there. Either for sale in pieces or as a whole. I mean something more as a display model, rather than a playset.

Thanks.

As far as I know, there has never been a complete (or near) play set or replica, however, in the past few years, Olszewski has produced some incredible pieces from both Disneland and WDW. Scale is uniform and detail is magnificent. Take a look...

I think the game plan is to eventually complete both parks, if you can afford it! This site should get you started, search other sites for more info and pics...

Wow! Thanks for the info those are amazing pieces, although at those prices it will take a while (maybe a little longer than a while!!) to start building the set, but amazing nonetheless.

I will search the web for more info, now that I have a little bit of direction of where to look.

Thanks

cxcelica- Your enthusiasm is understandable, but wait until you see one of these pieces in person!

Lol...You have piqued my interest a little more, I now have to make it my business to get a first hand look at these pieces.

I have always thought this would be a gold mine for Disney. Who would not want a replica of the Magic Kingdom or even EPCOT (owning a model world showcase would be pretty neat) in their home.

Goldmine? Actually... no.

Several years ago, Department 56 offered some of the buildings to test the waters to see how the public would receive them. This would have been the first in a series, but as a result of poor sales, it became the "only in a series" and the project was shelved. The scale was larger than the Olszewski series.

I don't really think that there are that many collectors out there who want a complete scale model of any of the parks, even with the smaller scale of the new offering. Geeze, you'd have to leave both the cars outside in the weather!

There was a series sold only in the UK and Europe by Bluebird. Several years later the pieces were sold at Disneyland in a and they were made by Mattel.

They included, Peter Pan's Ride, Dumbo, the castle, and playcases featuring Beauty & the Beast, Pocahontas, and Aladdin. There were small houses, of Snow White, Aladdin's castle and Beast's Castle. Those were the ones I remember. I have both of the Peter Pan playsets, and my daughter had all the B&B ones. They came with little figures too.

I found a couple for sale on the web. I'll email or PM you the links.

More interesting info. I would guess alot would also have to do with the price points. Just looking at these Olszewski prices I can see how you can easily get in the hole $5,000-$7,500 trying to start to collect these sets.

There is a large market for holiday villages i.e. Christmas Villages, Halloween Villages, and also a nice size group of Disney collectors. You would think that the intersection of these groups may provide enough of a market to be profitable, but perhaps not.

Agreed though you would need some serious space to set it up

This is probably what you're thinking of:

Not sure if it's currently available, though.

Disney used to sell some attraction things to go along with all of the Monorail stuff (Haunted Mansion, Astro Orbitor, Dumbo, Mad Tea Party) but not anymore.

They do however, at least last time I visited, sell playsets of the four park icons, Cinderella Castle, Spaceship Earth, Sorcerer's Hat, and the Tree of Life in addition to the Monorail Toy.

If you plan to order though, I recommend just getting it from WDW Mail Order (407-363-6200)
