Does anyone know why the Princess' in the Disney Parades wave in a circular motion? We just got back from our first trip last week and our 4 year old, while watching our videotapes, noticed that Cinderelaa, Belle, etc. all wave in a circular pattern.

We had no answer (that she accepted anyway).

HELP!

I've also seen people wave that way on Mardi Gras floats (usually when they have a septer that they wave from side to side)

Maybe because it seems like you are waving to more people by waving in a circle than waving up and down. Almost an optical illusion to people watching?

It is no coincidence that it is the princesses who wave this way - the circular motion is how royalty tend to wave.

I can remember practising it as a child :)

My brother and I noticed that at our local Christmas parade years ago, and we called it the princess wave. The more refined method we call the Queen Elizabeth and that is where you just hold your arm kind of straight and slightly rock your wrist so that just your hand moves.

As a Brit, I can comfirm that this is the way that members of our Royal Family wave. So presumably the 'Princesses' are Disney royalty and this is why they do it!!!

Just my suggestion! :smooth:
