Magic Kingdom or HS First Day?

So originally the plan was to hit magic kingdom the first day, especially because it is my boyfriend's first time and i felt, you know, you HAVE to walk down main street and see the castle as your first experience of Disney! But, we are going in january with shorter park times and DBF isn't one to rush out the door to see things (DF John, whose also coming, is like that, but considering DBF is really skeptical about this trip we are trying to plan things a little more to his speed rather than going all crazy commando-disney).

We arrive on the 5th, 7 am flight from NYC, they have us landing approx 10:05, which seems a bit much as ive never had a flight or orlando from JFK that took more than 2 hrs and maybe 15 min.

We are taking MCO, so lets say with everything all together we can get to a park by possibly 1:00.

Touring Plans said MK was the best park to go to on the 5th... but im realizing HS has extra magic evening hours and we could be there til 10 pm, as MK is open til 8pm.

Do we take advantage of the HS EMH or do we go for the classic MK as the first park, esp since touring plans says its the best (and the only best one listed) for the 5th?

Oy, decisions decisions.

Hopping on the MK bandwagon....You could always hit MK and then head over to DHS for dinner and more rides if you're park hopping!

I'd say MK - you'll probably be getting up crazy early that day, so probably won't want to stay up that late, anyhow. And then you get to finish your first day with Wishes...

I'm going with MK, especially if you'll be back there again later in the week.

Personally, I am a total must-do-MK-first person... I've been known to reset travel dates to allow a first day at MK without missing emh or anything... :goodvibes

That being said...

The fifth is one of only two Fantasmic nights that week, and there is even one of those bonus second shows (usually much, much less crowded so seats are generally easy to get even if you walk in close to showtime)... so depending on your dbf's preferences/personality, that may be a good way for him to spend his first night on property - wishes is shown at MK every night ;)

I am going to be the oddball and say that if you are traveling with children, I would go to HS first. The reason why is that to the kids, MK is going to be the creme of the crop. Everything else will be a bit of a disappointment. So when I go with my kids, I always start with what I think will be their least favorite park and then end with MK. That way they go home with the Magic still alive and fresh instead of being upset for following Mom and Dad around the parks that they don't like as much.

Just my opinion though.

no kids, just three adults. yeah the fantasmic thing is great too, and another reason why i was thinking HS first day. i dunno, maybe i should consult the others, but they keep designating me planning girl! haha i think they just would rather be told what to do than get involved with planning lol.
