Magic Kingdom No Longer Dry Park Will Serve Wine Beer

We are ignoring the fact that people have been sneaking alcohol into MK for as long as the park has been open.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Yep. Those tiny bottles at the resorts are easy to bring in. Not that I would personally know anything about that. ;)

Seriously, I don't really drink but I've been with those who do. There are ways...

So it will be sold everywhere. It is sold everywhere in Epcot, AK, DHS and nothing happened. Is someone deeply traumatized because someone walks with a beer in those parks? So, what is the difference with MK? Live and let others live.

What's the difference with the MK? Ahh, it's just, well it's 4 à.m. where I am and I'm too tired to explain now but yeah, it's different.

i do not see a problem as people can drink at other parks, their hotel room and monorail resort bars before entering the magic kingdom. serving overpriced beers at dinner time in one restaurant will have no impact on the environment at magic kingdom.

now if they add new attractions like:
Beer Bongs With Bambi
Drink a shot every time they say "small" on Small World
Meth on Main Steet
Stiches Great Heroine Escape

then we might see some real problems.

I know I have seen a few people who could USE a drink in the MK! Not to mention the fact this is a small restaurant allowing two drinks, hardly the sort of thing that will lead to the MK being overrun by "drunkards"

ROTFL!! That's great!

The only problem I have with this is that it goes against Walt's original wishes. I have seen plenty of folks in the park that were acting like jerks that were sober. A coupla drinks may just have mellowed them out. I trust CMs to take care of problems and not letting folks get to that state to begin with. There may be some growing pains, sure, but in the end, I don't think it will be a big deal. This is as far as I hope it goes. Keep it dinner and keep it in house and no to go cups, even a drink limit would be a good idea.

No, it is not. We are talking about same people, literally. Other parks did not turn into night clubs, no reason to expect it at MK.

But Kelly....having a glass of wine in the MK and then riding Dumbo is sooooooo much different than having a beer at Yak and Yeti and then riding TriceraTop Spin. Can't you see that?:rotfl2:

lol I'm sorry I know you said this to make a point, but I just got an image of an old lady in her nightgown with glasses that has that string to hold around her neck, and badly applied red lipstick approaching a random guy, sniffing in deeply and saying in a nasally voice 'have you been drinking young man?' :rotfl2:

My point was with all those places selling beer and liquor, you have to see it and smell it. If you don't, you are not paying attention. I've been at Epcot and seen people drunk and really obnoxious. I don't have anything against drinking in moderation but when you become obnoxious, that's when it's going too far. I remember one time we were in line at Norway and a group of guys came in and were jumping the line rails (there was not much of a line) because they didn't want to walk all the way through. They ended up ahead of us and were laughing that they got away with it. They were obviously drunk. Of course, the cm's did nothing.

If you are serving beer and wine in a restaurant with food, people tend not to overdo. It's when you are selling it at outside stands that it gets out of control.

How do you know it is not their natural state? Being obnoxious does not equal being drunk. Being drunk does not equal being obnoxious. MK was dry so far, how many times people cut in line, being loud and obnoxious, plain jerks and so on, no less then at other 3 parks :confused3

:listen:

When I first saw this news story today, I thougth it was some kind of joke.
:surfweb:

I hope that I get asked for the survey feedback. I sure as Hades dont mind telling the suits that get the bonus money that this is just not a good idea. :idea:One theme park in Florida can certainly go without booze.

How is it any different that Club 33? It's still only one restaurant serving beer and wine and only during dinner.

Exactly. And they serve at lunch, too. BEST mai tai I've ever had, and woo I was buzzy for at least an hour, walking around "dry" Disneyland.

Anytime alcohol and MK are mentioned in the same breath, someone always trots out this old hack and it is SOOOO infuriating!!. And it is not even slightly relevant. Club 33 is a private club. It is not open to the park. Joe Schmo from Idaho can't just waltz in and order a brew. The public areas of Disneyland are dry.

The public areas of Disneyland have people walking around who just had a margarita at DCA, a beer in DTD, a mai tai in Club 33.

I'm a normal average person, and I have a friend who made a reservation for me and my family. Can you just walk on up and make a reservation? No, it has to be done in advance and only if you know someone or have a membership, but sometimes some of the reservations at WDW seem like that, too! (and you have to do it further in advance at WDW, too!) But still, normal average people can, and do, eat and drink there every day.

And then walk around the parks under a bit of the influence.

To me, who has been to Club 33, it's not an "old hack", it's a very real comparison.

This is a test, and I have every reason to believe that beer carts will be lined up with the Mickey bar carts before long. And you complain about the aggressive parade crowds now?

Alcohol is a depressant.

I have been carded buying a beer at WDW, and I'm 42.

Booze is EXPENSIVE there.

Also, beer is sold *everywhere* at Universal, even in the line for Forbidden Journey when it's hot (I've seen the cart, but it's never been manned b/c the line hasn't been long enough for it when we've been), and I have never once seen anything *near* aggression at Universal. Nor have I ever heard of it on the Uni forum here.

The people who go to MK are often the same that go to Universal...why would they behave themselves at Universal, surrounded by beer all day long, compared to one single place serving beer and wine at MK?

Alcohol is the only drug in the U.S. that is legal & it kills innocent people.

OH, except for all of those prescription drugs that, I'm fairly certain, kill FAR more people than alcohol does.

Exactly.

The family park idea was what he wanted for his own family as well as others so yes, goodness of heart right there.

And then he smoked all over them and came up with the concept of Club 33.

I've seen drunk and obnoxious people at Epcot MANY times, I also have stories that I won't get into here.

Yes, most of it was during the Food and Wine festival and New Year's Eve. I was a contractor during those times back in 2007, so yes, I had much more opportunity to see those people. It happens, its prevalent especially after 7-8PM when the locals come out to party and drink.

As for MK, if this is the ONLY place they'll be serving, it might be ok, but I'll be surprised if it stays that way.

Very disappointing news. Coming from where a family where no one drinks alcohol, I just don't see the need to have alcohol at MK. If you need alcohol to "have fun" something is VERY wrong!

I am a big social drinker, though rarely have a beer at WDW because of the high cost, but a little disappointed in this decision because we all know it will lead to beer being sold in the entire park a few years down the road..

Just because you and your family don't drink, why should no one be allowed to have a glass of wine or a beer with dinner? I don't smoke, but I have never said they should ban all smoking from the parks.

September 13, 2012, a large part of the Magic and pixie dust left the MK!:worried:

I am sure Walt is looking down very sad today!

With luck the suits and bean counters will change this policy

I'm not saying that they shouldn't ever drink! :confused3 Personally I HATE the smell of alcohol and don't see the big appeal. I think it's sad we have a society that encourages alcohol consumption, often to the extreme. Surely Magic Kingdom doesn't need to have alcohol, it's popular enough already! It's hardly been keeping the crowds away because they can't get an alcoholic drink, has it? ;)
