Magic kingdom down to two designated smoking areas

I can see both sides of the argument. I let me start by saying I am a non smoker and I can't stand the smell of it and it usually gives me headaches quite quickly. With that being said we cannot take away their areas to smoke. We can see them on a map and we non smokers can avoid them, like I do every vacation. It is not illegal to smoke in this country just like it is not illegal to consume alcohol and since I go to Epcot and enjoy drinks I think people who smoke should be able to enjoy their hard earned vacation as I do. Within the limits of the rules and the designated smoking areas. To the people above, WDW is not just for children it is for everyone so I think everyone should feel welcomed and have a place of their own.

I don't think they are phasing them out. Others have been really horrible at being in those 2 locations that removed the last month or so. Basically standing anywhere they want so they can try to see the fireworks while smoking. As a smoker, stay in the damn area. I am going to miss that tree, I meet so many great people at that spot. I am happy to see an area outside of the entrance though, that'll really change how I do the front of the park.

I don't see this list being horrible as a smoker. Just remember to stop before you head into the park and you should be good with 2 in the "back". It's a whole lot better than AK with 2 in the front.

FYI: I do tell other smokers to get into "the damn area" when I see them anywhere.

I have never smoked, never will smoke. My husband has smoked as a teenager ("because everyone did it") but hasn't smoke since then. My parents both smoked and were able to quit way back in the early 70s when the warnings first came out - mainly because my sister and I were being told at school about smoking so we decided if our parents wanted to get another pack of cigarettes, they wouldn't use us to do it.

However, I've know people who have smoked and are still smoking (both cases). Quitting smoking is one of the most difficult things to do and I've seen the affects of those who have tried and gone back.

Smoking will never go away so those who wish tobacco was outlawed, well, that's not going to happen. Those of us going to Disney World who do not smoke and/or are allergic to smoke, we can enjoy our vacation. And for those who do go to Disney World and smoke, they can enjoy their vacation as well.

So, let's just see how the reduced zones go and stop the banter here about how bad smoking is. This is a planning forum, not an anti-smoking one.

"CMs aren't doing their job! Why don't they get security involved?"
What some folks don't know about enforcement is a lot.
"If a guest who's smoking ignores a CM then they need to get security involved!" Really? Just how high on security's priority list do you think smoking is? Yes it's Disney and they can afford really good security and lots of it, and believe me they do have LOTS of it, most of which you cannot see. But what would you prefer, security switching focus to inconsiderate smokers, or maintaining focus on weapons and suspicious behavior and suspicious packages?

Enough with the CM and security bashing. We're talking about smoking here, not national security.

The other part of that problem is guests only listen when they want to. I don't think I've ever been in a show where the guests have all moved all the way down to the end to make seating available for everyone. Some jerk(s) always stop in the middle, making people trample on them to get to their seats. And I'm not sure how they can be firm, and not have constant arguments.

On the contrary, I think not being firm is what causes more arguments.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say.

I actually think this is total BS. people treat smokers like lepars. The exhaust that comes from cars is worse than second hand smoke (in an outdoor environment), but no one would dream of treating drivers the way society treats smokers. Sorry, had to voice my opinion here.

I don't care who smokes as long as I'm not exposed to it. If someone is smoking around me, then yes I'm going to treat them as a lepar with no shame on my part. What's BS is those who say it's my right to smoke anywhere I choose.

It is easy enough to avoid the smoking areas, look at the map. Problem is they keep removing the smoking areas and more people will walk around smoking. Making smoke impossible to avoid.
They do that now. Seen plenty of smokers outside of the designated smoking areas; each and every day I've been to a park. The best solution is to ban smoking in the parks altogether.

I am a smoker and I agree with smoking sections because there are children around and I would never smoke around a child there is NO smoking in my house I go outside even in below 0 weather . But the point I'm trying to make is even though some people smoke and some don't the people who smoke have rights as well. Now with that being said I totally understand how people who do not smoke don't want to breathe the smoke in and I am with you on that but don't treat us like leapers we are people too and most of us very nice. Give us our sections I am happy with that and who ever goes in that area is up to them ..

We can do something....it's called sunblock.

And, the smoking areas can be avoided if so desired which is also doing something.

Bottom line is that some people smoke, some people don't and both are being addressed by Disney. Smokers should adhere to the policies and only smoke in the designated areas (and shame on those who do not) and nonsmokers should avoid the designated areas if they do not wish to be exposed to smoking. As for banning smoking in the parks all together, it is biased to suggest that as a solution if you are a nonsmoker (which I am by the way) and Disney is trying to address all of their guests.

Not being biased. Smoking is banned in many public and government facilities with designated smoking areas outside.

Smoking is disgusting and unpleasant. I wish they would eliminate the areas entirely.
I agree with the gross and disgusting, but as a former smoker (it's been 14 years smoke free) I do understand that it is NOT an easy thing to kick and I have no problem with a smoking area as long as it's designated in an area far from where people are eating, or standing in line, etc.

And most of WDW is outdoors. So why not have designated smoking areas at WDW?

The problem is really everyone who just doesn't care and does what they want. The spots it went away had the most abusers of what was actually the smoking section.

Personally, we're going to see confrontations in the hub now when someone nic fitting is waiting hours to see some fireworks and then has to walk out of the park. I predict the pushing and rudeness will be at an all time high now.

This is my comment - something happened to the end quote
Someone who ignores a cast member who is reminding them of Disney guest policy, or who is rude and / or aggressive (like blowing smoke in their face) is a danger and should be removed from the park for the protection of all guests.

Actaully "we" meaning Disney can take away their smoking areas. They are a private business and can set their own rules about it.
I have no problem with designated smoking areas for smokers. I do have a problem with inconsiderate slob smokers who smoke anywhere and leave their cigarette butts on the ground. So, if a private business would rather take away all smoking areas because they don't want to deal with those people, good for them, and good for us non smokers who don't walk around throwing our trash on the ground.

Because it is abused. Just returned from a trip and seen several people smoking outside of the designated smoking areas. I'm all for a designated smoking area outside the park; maybe a smoking room where the smoke is contained inside.

Non-smoker here. Hate it. And so glad Adventureland is gone cause it's hard to avoid ....

BUT they already don't enforce the smoking areas so now with it being made even more difficult there will be more breaking the rules.

I'd rather there be no excuses about going to the right spot, but I want those spots tucked to the side and not in the middle of walkways.

.....Unless this is their slow progression to smoke free parks.

I am really glad the Adventureland spot is gone as well. It is a nice area, and many families would want to sit and eat their frozen treats there, but have to be stuck next to the stinking clouds of smoke. I would be happy if they eliminated all cigarette smoking from the parks and anywhere near guest areas at the resorts.
