Magic kingdom closing early

We are travelling in late august and while we are there Magic kingdom is closing at 6pm on 2 nights.

Anyone know why?

We purposely choose to go to the MK on party days as the early close scares many away. We get just as much done between park opening and 6:00 as we roils in a day with a normal close. We love the lower crowds (until 4PM) and shorter lines!

We have found MK to be MUCH less crowded on party days until about 4 pm when the party goers can start to arrive. Much shorter lines for most rides.

We’ve been visiting in either Aug or Sep for over 10 years. Unless you’re only able to go the MK 1 day and want to see the fireworks, I’d highly recommend a party day.

When the party dates were announced this year while many were planning their party excitement, I was quickly booking MK for party days!

We hope to hop to MK a different day to see the fireworks but last time we tried it just wasn’t worth it as the park was crazy busy.

You can see in this pic below what the crowd difference was in 2022 on a typical party week in the fall of 2022. Party days have noticably lower crowds until 4PM.

To me, the 2:00 park hopping restriction will also decrease crowds as non- party guests are less likely (in my mind) to hop to MK for
only a few hours.

Hmmm, we only have one day at each parks and I was thinking of doing MK on a non-party day because I wanted more time but we are also doing one party. So Maybe I'll do MK on a party day and just plan other stuff for the evening. It would be nice to do MK without the big crowds.

That’s the best strategy. Non-party days are typically very crowded. If you want to see the fireworks, start elsewhere and hop to MK in the evening. If you want to be on Main Street, find a spot early. They will close it when at capacity.
