Magic Kingdom closed to some guests due to capacity (phase 2)

I was wondering what the wait times would look like - WOW!!! Glad crowd level predictions for our trip are 1s and 2s. I'll take iffy weather for low crowds any day!

50 minutes to get into SSE haha. I always thought it was silly that it had a queue. I've always been able to walk right in when I go

Jason just tweeted again that admission is no longer restricted.

We will have to start going during school holidays, as DS13 will be starting high school. We had it down to the week after Christmas or the week after Easter. Easter it is!

Just be aware that Easter is about the same.

lol I have a co worker there today and tomorrow- planning to do two parks each day....hee hee hee :rotfl2:

This makes me laugh even on a regular/normal crowd level day. :rotfl: Have they ever been to WDW before? And then during a holiday? You MUST report back what they said when they get back.

WESH News (local NBC affiliate) just sent out a tweet saying that all DIS parks are open again as of 2:30.

My DD is working at HS this week and just texted that her co-workers are having trouble just getting in to the shops to get to work the lines at the door are so long. There was a 2 hour wait for Star Tours when normally they can't give away fast passes. All parks but Epcot were closed at one point, but all are now open.

didn't Cheshire Figment say that they'd been told that December 28 was going to be ridiculously busy?

i wonder what makes this particular day so busy.

Yup...that's what I was going to say. A lot of parents don't want to pull their children from school and don't want the heat of summer so they do Christmas and Easter. As an earlier poster said, get there super early and have a plan.

the weeks around Easter can be just as bad - my dad was just telling my fiance about the trip we took for easter, when my dad thought going to the MK on Easter Sunday was a good idea. We go often so it wasn't a big deal that it was so crowded, but the way my dad put it - for that week, whatever way the crowd went is the way we went. I would never in a million years go to WDW for the week before Christmas, between Christmas and NYE, around Easter, or 4th of July. I dont mind the crowds, but being short, when things are jam-packed around the most crowded WDW times of the year, my eye sockets are at most people's elbow height, and that makes for some really unfortunate bruising...

My DH and I went at this time a few years ago while we were still in college. It was 68 degrees out when we left MK around 11am. Since the other parks were just as full, we were about to head back to our resort when we spotted an almost empty bus headed to Blizzard Beach. We bought bathing suits in the gift shop and had the park almost to ourselves. It was a little chilly, but sunny. It's one of my favorite Disney memories.

Yep, exactly. I assume it's just a crossover day when Christmas visitors are still there and NYE visitors are starting to arrive.

Personally I loved going this week a few years ago - the crowds just don't bother me because if I'm going this time of year my goal is not to have no wait times for rides, or stroll casually through the parks. I went simply to be there for the holidays. Plus I had just been to Times Square the year before so the 75,000 crowd at WDW was nothing compared to the 1,000,000 crowd in Times Square.

I've seen some folks throw around 75k as capacity for the MK. Others have said 100K. Does anyone know for sure? On Saturday the 17th a CM told us they were expecting around 60K and I sort of wanted to compare.

In theory, the capacity is variable depending on how many attractions are down, etc.

I believe the different numbers thrown out there are due to the "staged" closures. I've heard in the last that 75,000 was approximately when they start Stage 1 and close the parking lots.

Disney does not publicize the numbers at all.

Local news reported that Universal Studios also closed for a while at Noon due to capacity crowds (and that Harry Potter broke down). 'Tis the season for bad traffic on I-4, too.

This week is just nasty busy. Not just in the parks, but also on the roads to get there. Watching the local news, they keep reporting traffic jams, accidents, and overall miserable conditions around the attractions.

The beaches are full, too. Seems like a good time to hang out at the bar.

Studios was insane today.

Great Movie Ride, which hardly EVER has a wait more than 30ish minutes, had a wait of 60 minutes for a good 2 hours. That never happens...

I went during Easter last year and it was NO WHERE near what they are saying this week is like. Waits were managable and crowd level was heavy but not crazy. We are going that week again in 2012.

Oh yeah, like this picture from I -4 at Universal Blvd. today. Those poor people had a loooonnng wait ;)

I imagine some people thought they'd avoid the other parks and try Legoland - but it reached capacity also:

Legoland Florida in Winter Haven, which opened in October and targets children ages 2 to 12, also reached capacity Wednesday, officials said.

"Florida's newest theme park has reached capacity," the park posted on Twitter. "@LEGOLANDFlorida is no longer admitting guests (12/28/11). Tomorrow, opening at 9:30am."

Hey kids, how about for vacation this year over the winter break we go somewhere other than Florida?
