We are only spending a day in MK is there any reason we need an APP for the Park? What do I use the APP for and which one? there seem to be many to choose from.... I have the Disney APP for my cruise but beyond that I dont know if we need one for the Park?

For a single day, My Disney Experience will cover what you need. It allows for FP booking, has entertainment schedules, and shows wait times.

You can go a day without using it - all the information is available elsewhere (at the rides, times guides, etc), but it's nice to have everything in once place where you can access it whenever

I agree. If you're only doing one day and you're only in Magic Kingdom, the My Disney Experience (MDE) app will do everything you need. Be sure to book your FP+ as far in advance as you can. The app will help you with wait times while at the park.

Just FYI - often MDE will crap out on my phone in the parks so you can also just use the MDE website on your phone's browser, too.
