I think you could argue that on party nights, MK closing times are abnormally early.

On the other hand, those those hours are also announced well in advance.

I would argue not. Disney has no set hours.

The hours are the announced hours and they are announced 6 mos out.

Parties have been happening over a decade for 1/3 of the year, no surprises there.

Varying hours are nothing new.

Only Epcot has had standard hours although I've heard upset folks who didn't check that there are two sets of hours within the park.

The point I was making to the PP was they stated Disney reduced hours, they did not.

How about "standard" hours are 7 pm and anything after is a bonus ...

Would you be willing to go for "typical hours"? From what I can remember, 7pm closings aren't common other than party nights. (Not that they don't exist, just they aren't common. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, I just don't want to go searching through the WDW web site. Grrr.)

But as we both said, the hours are publicized well in advance, have been pretty well established for a long time, and DAH does not seem to have caused shorter hours. And that was really the point.

I am considering this for our upcoming trip and thought that maybe I'd buy tix for me and DD9 now and then wait until day of to decide if DD4 can make it late enough to make it worth the ticket price for her.

DD9 is pretty interested especially after reading Kingdom Keepers, so I thought this would be fun for her in addition to the awesome-ness of a fairly empty park. And I'm trying to convince myself that the four of us don't have to be together 24/7.

I am considering this for our upcoming trip and thought that maybe I'd buy tix for me and DD9 now and then wait until day of to decide if DD4 can make it late enough to make it worth the ticket price for her.

I don't think any of the nights have sold out.

I did it once on the first go around with just my 9 year old daughter. Then we did a family trip a couple weeks ago and did it February 2. Our other two girls are 8 and 6. When it was just myself and D9 we definitely moved a lot quicker and got more rides. With our entire family of 5 more time was spent just getting from place to place and even little things like restroom breaks and ice cream. If I were you I would buy tickets now for you and your 9 year old. Once you get there and see how your trip is going you can decide if you want your 4 year old to go. If they will stay up and be active it could be a lot of fun (staying on Pooh and not having to get off was D6's dream come true) but it would be a different experience than just you and D9. Hopefully that helps. Good luck deciding.

Thank you for your insight. I'm pretty sure once DD4 (almost 5 really) will want to go once she finds out DD9 is going. The idea of going on the same ride over and over is very appealing.

Since they haven't sold out, I think we will take the wait and see approach.

After Kingdom Keepers, IASW was creepy, especially given that we were the only people on the entire ride for as far as I could see. Even creepier after having seen Escape From Tomorrow.

Is it confirmed that the only transportation running after is bus?

We grabbed the ferry back to the TTC. There was no monorail running and people were being shunted to buses. That said, you could walk to the Contemporary and catch an Uber and get back quicker to some of the resorts, most likely.

We were still in the park at 11:20 and we weren't the last ones to leave. There were a lot of people still coming out. So much so that they closed our ferry down and moved everybody up to the next ferry at a certain point.

Disney was closing at 8 and 9pm first 2 weeks of december on many weekdays. That's peak season and the parks are closing the same during weekends in non-peak season. The problem is perception. The parks used to always be opened later and that's just not the case since last summer.

The ending of this event is not like regular park closing. At the end of EMH you leave. There's no dawdling, no stopping to shop, etc. Everything shuts down and you depart.

My dad's plan is to be at the back of the park at midnight and very slowly make our way up to the front, taking plenty of pics along the way. Transportation goes for two hours after park closing, so it seems they're expecting people to do this.

Sure, you can stop for photos and take your time walking out. As long as you are making your way out, it's good. There's no walking deeper in the park and nothing will be open at the end of the event. It's very different than regular park closing where stores all stay open. That's all I was saying. They don't run you out the gates but the closing after DAH is different.
Technically, they'll have transportation for however long it takes to get every guest back to where they are going, be it 1 hour or 5

I sent Disney a message asking if it will be continued into the summer months. They probably wont know but oh well doesn't hurt to ask.

Yeah, that's what we figured - and I did see that only the Emporium is open for the event. We won't be doing any shopping since there will plenty of time to do that during the rest of the week.

I was wondering the same thing. We'll be there tomorrow and was wondering the likelihood of getting sprinkled with pixie dust for that event.

I would think unlikely. There have been no reports of this. I think they are purposely NOT doing it this time.

They've been adjusting the calendars around the 15-17th most months (some exceptions). I would think right about now we'll see if it's going to get more dates added on but they might wait to the very end if it's right on the edge of being worth it for disney.
