Magic Goes Texan! Eight Crazy Nights (3/1/2013 Bahamas)

So excited to see how busy this thread has become. We just returned from a little over two weeks in California, so I haven't been as active on the board in awhile. We are booked at the Galvez with their park and stay package. It was very reasonable, I think about $149. When you figure we were going to play about $60 just to park, it was an easy decision.

That is where we are also

Internet is expensive on most cruise lines. I just compared Royal Caribbean to Disney and they have the exact same prices. I kind of wonder if the pricing is set by their provider - all Internet on the ship goes thru a satellite uplink. So not only is it expensive, it is SLOW.

Your iPhone will have Cellular-at-Sea coverage while on the ship - AT&T was $2.50 per minute on our last cruise. You can pickup signals while passing some larger islands, but it can cost $$. I want to say the cheapest was while in the Bahamas, $1.10 per minute (if you had international calling).

I would suggest checking to make sure that 'Data Roaming' is turned off on your iPhone (it is off by default). International Data rates are CRAZY expensive + iPhones are very data hungry = one very sad/mad individual when your bill gets here :mad::eek:

I need more posts too so I am gonna ask lots of questions and see what sticks, lol

Here is a question, why are the Internet rates so darn expensive on the cruise!? What is the chance my iPhone will have reception out there? Or am I facing crazy roaming fees even it does work?

Does anyone know if there is a forum or recommended way of finding people that may want to share a cabana to reduce their costs?

We have a cabana in the adult section, and there's only two of us, would be willing to share....

Next subject: drinking water.

Why do people bring cases of water? Are there not places to refill our reusable water bottles or does the water not taste good?

We are flying in from San Francsico and arrive the morning of departure, so I don't think it would be cost effective to bring a case on the plan or to find a place to buy a case prior to boarding... But I will if you experts say it is necessary!!!!

I have found the water to be fine, and just take collapsible bottles to refill at the buffet.

Is there really a formal night? I think the semi-formal night was confirmed but will my hubby really need a full suit? Do the women actually wear gowns or just dresses?

I think I need to go shopping!!!

Yes, there is a formal night. No, full suits are not required. Yes, they wear both. You see the full gamut of clothing on formal nights - ranging from full Tuxedos to Slacks & Polo shirts (and maybe even more casual).

I just reminded my wife that the cruise is in under two months. Her response was almost the same as yours: she needs to go shopping and when can I watch the kids......:scared1:

Thanks Laenie but we have a little princess (DD3) and we don't plan on leaving here at the kids section. I think we are going to be fine in the family section based on the comments. But you enjoy that hammock :beach:

Yay for the new "My Disney Experience" iPhone app!! I posted a few days ago about having trouble getting a dining reservation. We had Liberty Tree as a back-up, but this morning I was able to get a Kona Cafe reservation. There must have been a cancellation! It took all of 90 seconds to search and book with the app. Happy girl.

Has anyone called to see which movies will be playing on our cruise?

No, but I did read that "Oz the Great and Powerful" premieres on March 8, so they will probably run it on our last sea day.

Oh, you're right...my math is wrong. Boo!

Wait...maybe I am not wrong. We disembark on the 9th, right? The movie should premiere at 12:01 am on the 8th (Thursday night) and play throughout the day.

Hi! I am so excited to find this group. We are long time avid Disney travelers but this is our first Disney cruise. I just found out about Fish Extender groups and what a fish extender is. I would really like to join if possible. Do I get a hanger with just the kids names on it? How can I join? Thanks for any info. I have a 8 year old DD and a 4 years old DS. Thanks

Hi, and WELCOME to the group! You are going to love cruising with DCL. There is a ton of information here on the DIS boards about FE, including threads with great pics of the hangers themselves as well as gifting ideas. Our first group for the FE exchange actually filled up pretty quickly and is now closed. There are two other new group members who are interested in doing FE but missed the cut-off: sdaniel and Tangled22. I have encouraged them to start a Group 2, and I would say the same to you. I would be happy to help you all get started!

Pirates 4 premEARed on our Alaskan cruise and I have to admit I wasn't really comfortable with the 3D experience on a moving vessel. I didn't get sick or anything, it was just disconcerting.
Oz looks like fun, just trying to decide if it's one of those movies, like Snow White and Huntsman, that's a bit too dark for the daughter.
I'm hoping Lincoln is still playing when we're on board -- haven't had a chance to see it in the theater.
We also haven't seen Wreck It Ralph, hopefully that will be playing on board.
And even though we bought Brave on DVD and DD has watched it A LOT, we'd still go see it again on a big screen.

They were playing all of those movies on our Nov 24th - Dec.1st sailing so possibly there has not been new kids movies.

We're traveling with my in-laws, who made separate reservations. We've gone on one DCL cruise before, but this is their first time; so they have a half-hour later check in time. Does anyone know if they'll have problems checking in with us?
