Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

Yep, they are! We are in a category three and have been on the waitlist for a one or two since day one of booking! I'm guessing that those are nearly always booked for Christmas cruises. We normally don't cruise concierge-level but decided to splurge with it being Christmas (and because we had two years to save up). :goodvibes

Wow, the Disney suites would be fun for Christmas!

Does anyone know what movies will be showing on our cruise? I am hoping for Toy Story 3-D (have not seen it yet), Tangled (or whatever the Rapunzel one is) and Megamind. On previous cruises, I have called a few weeks prior and they told me, but have not done it yet for this one.

The first is "The Last Days of St Pierre" by Ernest Zebrowski. I really enjoyed that one a lot - talked a lot about what the islands were like at the turn of the century. The other book is La Catastophe by Alwyn Scarth. trying to read it now, might not be as good.

I also read a book by Carrolly Erickson (I think about Josephine Bonaparte.) It talked a lot about her early life on Martinique...and what a pill she was!!

I'm a BIG John Grisham fan.. read/audio-booked most of his books so far, anyways..happened upon one of his older books on iTunes the other day called "Skipping Christmas". And wouldn't you know it..it's about a family deciding to leave home for Christmas and go on a CARIBBEAN cruise instead for the holidays..Haven't started it yet, waiting til the plane ride over to start it. But thought that it was pretty funny, cause that's what all of us are doing.

Had to share my 2 cents, hehe

I loved this book!;)

I have also read this book. Its a little different from his others but very enjoyable. There was also a film on it but cant remember the name it has Jamie lee Curtis in it and is very funny.

Ok all - I am just going to be up front and tell everyone - shocking stuff - my DH and DS DO NOT dress up for the cruise. We are a pretty relaxed family about that stuff, and I must say, I can't blame them for not wanting to wear a tie and wool jacket in the tropics. We are from Minnesota, and like a lot of you, we get to be warmly dressed much of the year. We take our tropical vacations very seriously up here. Of course, my DH will be dressed nicely for Palo - but if I recall, nice dress slacks and a nice "Ricky Ricardo" shirt shd suffice.

I am also always trying to keep the amount of luggage and baggage fees down.

IMO you also have to pick your battles. Is it a battle worth fighting? My DS 15 has asked not to wear dress pants to dinner this time, but he has agreed to what I call dressier shirts (collared shirts from Hollister, AE, etc.) and polo shirts. I know he will be presentable and still be comfortable but I didn't think it was a battle worth fighting. We compromised on formal and semi-formal nights. Suit for formal night and what I think are obnoxious Loudmouth (like the Norwegian curlers wore) golf pants on semi-formal nights with dress shirts. He is expressing his own style, being a huge golfer! We still carry extra baggage as these items will not do double duty but we also get nice pictures on those nights.

You have to do what works for you.:)

Film was "Christmas with the Kranks", but from what I have read from reviews of the book...they did not do the book justice by making the movie...never saw the movie, thankfully..so glad the movie won't ruin the book for me.

I  the Loudmouth Golf pants! So tempted to get a pair myself.

For those of you whose children might like to journal the trip, I asked DISer milliepie to create some pages for our ports and a Christmas At Sea day page, and she so kindly obliged. Here's the link if you'd like to make a journal:

Just got done printing me a whole books worth of journal pages!! LOVE that site. Thanks for the link and thanks to Milliepie too!!

Can you still go curly after one of these procedures? I actually love my curly hair for the wash and wear versatility. I just like an occasional straight look for dress up or business trips so it looks a bit more polished...but I couldn't give up the ease of jumping in the shower, scrunching and going! It's the one easy thing in my life. :cool1:

Your hair is straight (no more curlies) after the Brazilian and YuKo. We are able to wash and go too, but we have straight hair. I am not fond of my curly hair, so it is so worth the money to have straight and manageable hair. I cannot wait for my appointment at the beginning of next month. Since it has been almost 6 months since my last procedure, it is blow-driers and flat irons for me.

Hi...
Questions, questions...

I'm one of the 10 to split, but I had just as soon not because it would be easier to just do everyone now, so does the "Y" need to come off my name?

Should I wait until it's "cleaned up" to print the spreadsheet out? Or are y'all printing it out and penciling in staterooms, etc?

We are in room 7576 if anyone needs to pencil it in.

No split for us too now. Numbers are manageable when you see them in black and white. We are prepared for 65. I speak Google Docs very well.

Also, Melissa your SailAway Cocktail is on ME. You ROCK !!!!
My Santa's hat is off to you.

We usually go pretty casual on all of our cruises. We haven't dressed in true formal for about 12 years. On our 10 night Med cruise this summer, we only took a carryon each for the 18 days we were in Europe. We pack light, do laundry and everything has to do at least double duty. But this cruise, since it is our first Christmas cruise and since we had the worst year ever except for the fact that we all lived through it even though it was shaky at times. Thank you God for coming through for us! :worship::worship::worship: We have decided to go all out. :santa: Fresh new Christmas dresses, suits and ties. We are celebrating our lives and taking pictures galore. The pictures we take Christmas night, we will use for our Christmas cards next year. Our next cruise we will go back to being more casual. We would at least wear a nice dress to Christmas mass and dinner if we were home and since it's a sea day there's plenty of time to get ready. I am sooo glad we are not in port that day. I think no matter how everyone decides to dress, it is great just to be together as a family and sharing our holidays with new found friends.

3princessMommy, my DD would love to meet your DD's online before the trip if we decide to go! My DD may be very close in age to your DD, she turns 9 in March!

Hi, I have a daughter that will be on the cruise, she is 8 and in the 3rd grade. Is that the same age as yours? I also noticed that you tutor math. I am a math instructor at a junior college. We just booked the cruise last week, and are so excited!

Thanks,

Camie

I think you can get away with anything, as long as you are 'neat and clean'! :)

Altho we aren't thrilled to see the occasional sloppy tank top over ripped cargo shorts at dinner, we are in the "dress how you are comfortable" category.

We had tablemates this summer on the Med Cruise who had not planned to go on a cruise (they were visiting a relative in Europe who arranged it for them). They were worried about being inappropriately dressed for dinner since they only packed for visiting family. The 20-something son wore a plain black tee shirt and black trousers pretty much every night, and Mom was MOST dressy in black slacks and dark shirt, and draped a scarf around her shoulders for the more formal nights. Both fit in beautifully.

Come as you are comfortable! Celebrate and Enjoy! :santa::yay:

I was wondering if all of you think my table mates would be upset if I brought birthday items to the dining room on December 19 to decorate the table for my mom. She will be turning 77 and I would like it special for her. I ordered the cake and thought I would get candy gift bags for everyone at the table and then purchase a birthday table piece and a few other items. Do you think this would offend anyone?

Is anyone else staying in the Residence Inn? We decided to do their park and cruise package rather than park at the terminal.

I am so excited that we do not have school on Thursday. It will be a wonderful day. I can begin the packing for the cruise. I need to get everything organized. Preparing the FE gifts. Sewing a few shirts. This will be wonderful.
