Magic Bands not working?

Anyone else have issues with their bands not working? We paid for the dining plan and 4 times this week have been asked to pay cash because the system was down. For the first time today we saw a CM manually enter our band number while everyone else has turned us away or asked us to pay cash. I'm sure it's been discussed before, but didn't see it immediately.

Good reason to carry a credit card or cash in addition to your magic band. Have you talked to the front desk of your hotel?

When we have the dining plan, we meticulously plan how we're going to use our credits. It seems unfair for you to be asked to pay OOP when you've already paid through the credits you have!

I hope they work this out for you soon. :(

Go talk with Guest Services and take receipts from the meals you've been asked to pay OOP for.

I absolutely agree with this. You should be refunded the cash you paid out of pocket & your DDP credits should be adjusted for those meals where their computer systems were not working properly.

Umm I don't think so! I would just about flip a lid if asked to pay cash because the system was down. What if you said you didn't have cash and no credit cards, sorry I have the dining plan!

This is just one of the reasons that Disney should be routinely giving guests a room key as a backup. Extremely unacceptable of them to refuse to do so, then turn around and make someone pay cash because "the system is down." That's why we should have a backup for the damn system!

If I already paid for the dining plan, I wouldn't be paying out of pocket for the meal. No Way. They would have to figure out a different way to accept my dining plan credit. I am usually really flexible, but when it comes to wasting possible hundreds of dollars because of a "system being down"...just no.

You should have got a manager involved. Something similar happened in 2011 when we were using our KTW card for our dining plan at EPCOT. They did something where we could get our food and it updated in the system that evening; for most of the day it showed more credits than we actually had. Not sure what they did, but they should have backup plans in place if the system is down.

No way! We are paying for the DxDDP and like a PP, we have all of our credits carefully planned. There is NO WAY I would walk away paying cash for a meal that I have already paid for. I am really hoping this doesn't become an issue for us and one out of the four MB we have work at a meal!

That happened to me once and I requested a manager. No way was I paying cash if I had meal credits. . Once I told the CM I was paying cash for an oatmeal about $2.30 and he charged it as one counter service meal. Again I called a manager to credit me and I paid cash.

I would not pay cash, they would have to figure it out. The fact that one place was able to do it shows they can handle it differently if necessary. I would get a manager. I'm usually a go with the flow kind of girl but when it comes to my vacation money....nope. Besides after paying cash you then have to go stand in line later to get your money back and the credits fixed. Why should you be spending your vacation time on that, they should handle it.

Oh heck no. I paid OOP for meals last summer when we didn’t have the plan and I know how much that food cost. Hence we just had 3 TS meals during the 8 days and had at least 1 meal a day in our room.

This year I planned 8 months in advance and got the regular plan. We have others but our first 2 TS meals are CRT and Hollywood and Vine. Those 2 alone would cost almost all of the spending money I’m bringing. I pray no one dares fix their mouth to make that ridiculous request when we are there at the end of the month. That is nuts. I wouldn't be doing that 1 time, let alone 4. Even a QS meal for the 3 of us costs almost $40.

I agree, I'm patient with most things and try to be flexible, but if someone has paid for the dining plan already, they should not have to pay OOP. I'd demand a manager.

I've been caught in the "system down" nightmare even before MB. I had a horrible time on our trip in Dec 12. Got to the resort and couldn't even check in. Entire system was down WDW wide. Nothing was working. Couldn't issue KTTW cards, our tickets, couldn't get food on DP, couldn't do anything. They had no idea how long it was going to be out. It wasn't even working come 4:00, when they are required to give us a room. I said that was not acceptable and they'd better find some way to issue us a room by that point. They did but we still couldn't use KTTW to eat. We had 2 choices, pay OOP or wait. The manager said that any charge would be reversed and put on our DP once they system came back up, if we just brought the receipt for the food back to the desk. Since they couldn't issue tickets we were given single day, non expiring passes to be used instead of the tickets on our package. We were attending the MVMCP that night, which I had printed tickets for, so I saved the ones they gave us at check in. Still have them :thumbsup2

But yeah, Disney's system going down can screw with DP, that's for sure. Thankfully we had just the 3 of us, and only ended up being 1 QS meal and I could afford to pay and get it refunded later. But at the time I made the comment, to the manager at the resort, what if I was a family of 6 and had an expensive TS meal planned and didn't have money with me to pay for it, since I had planned to use the DP. He gave me a blank look and had no answer.

I can't remember when it was :confused3 last fall maybe or this Jan whenever it happened to me with the DP at one restaurant I was asked to pay OOP nope not going to happen " I have no cash or cc with me sorry you'll have to get a manager"

They did and miraculously they got it fixed No way am I, as other posters said, pulling out a wallet and then wasting my time getting a refund

You don't tip? I'm sure the server will go out of their way to assist you :confused3

I don't know what they did but I will answer, yes I tip when I said I don't have cash or credit card with me I meant for the price of the meal...it's the principal of the thing Shouldn't have to OOP the meal that was already paid for due to system down When it was taken care of my server did get a tip but certainly not a tip the size of the cost of the meal

I hope that you get your credits and reimbursement resolved..:confused3

I would be unhappy if after paying for a DDP that there is a "glitch" in the system...I believe that I would have addressed it with the resort hotel management immediately.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!:)

This is not a Magic Band problem. We had this exact same problem 3 years ago when staying at Boardwalk Inn. We checked in, were issued our Room Keys, dropped our bags, and went to EPCOT. After our table service dinner, our server said our Room Keys did not have our dining entitlements on them and that we would have to pay with cash/credit card and have the issue fixed at the Boardwalk Inn.

We were tired when we returned to the resort and decided to deal with it in the morning. The next morning I spent over an hour at Guest Services trying to get the problem "fixed." They wanted to keep the previous day charge on the credit card and then give me a full set of entitlements for our 5 day stay. I remember the Agent telling me this was a good thing because now we could dine at a Premium restaurant using 2 credits!

We had problems with Dining Plan entitlements "disappearing" that entire trip. We wasted so much time waiting at Guest Services for them to check and fix our issues. Interestingly, this whole experience really soured us on the Dining Plan and we haven't gotten it since. It was just too much hassle to keep track of.
