Magic bands needed for pool access at AKV and WL?

It's common practice to try and get discounts too. Those DVC sliders are hot ticket items on ebay for a reason.
Don’t most locals have APs which have much the same discounts?
I know when I’m at WDW I ask do I get a discount for DVC, AP, Disney Visa - all of the above?

How do "locals" get into these resorts in the first place? What do they tell security? If they don't have reservations or some legitimate reason for being at a resort, why would security allow them to enter to begin with?

For context, I have never attempted to visit a WDW resort hotel for the sole purpose of visiting a hotel. Trips to resorts we aren't staying at have only always been for dining purposes only, and those are easily verified by scanning a magic band. I guess I thought security was a bit tighter than allowing anyone to enter a resort for any or no reason.

You can just visit a resort in most cases. To shop, have a drink etc. Things that don't require reservations. It's a rare hotel that doesn't allow people to enter who aren't staying there.

Yup. All they do is say they're there to dine or shop and they'll be permitted to park (exception to BW and BR/BLT).

It is very popular with the older set to skip the parks and enjoy a dinner or walk at a resort or Disney Springs. Other than entertaining the grand kids, many elderly do not go into the parks at all. Yes, hard to believe, while most of us grew up with Disney as a significant part of our lives while they did not and it is not a must do.

And to add, it's not that we didn't grow up with them, I'd say it's more like we have done the parks sooo many times that we don't need to go in every visit. And if you own DVC you know you'll be back.
