Really don't want to magic band bash. I like the idea. I look forward to trying mine out in 13 days!

But something just occurred to me and I'm hoping I can get over this.

Does anyone else think these bands sound like they are going to be awfully germy after constant wear for an entire trip?

I mean, none of us DISers will be spreading around bacteria, of course. ;-) We'll be washing ours with soap and hot every time we use the restroom, diaper our kids, and other occasions when we should wash our hands. Right? But what about those other quick rinse of the hands and soap dries my skin folks?

I just picture magic bands on dinner tables, rides, etc. I realize it's probably not any worse than people who don't wash their hands but for some reason, picturing a ripe, yellow magic band is an image I can't shake. And I'm not even that much of a germaphobe.

Is it just me?

Do you feel that way about the jewelry or watches you wear? I don't see the MB any more germy than people's hands, but if it is something that bothers you, throw some clorox wipes in your bag.

It never occurred to me. Interesting. I don't think I will give it a second thought when we are there though. If you aren't taking them off, as we likely won't be, they will be in the pools and the shower with us whenever we wash anyway.

Just think of all the other people's germs that will transfer into the pool for you to swim in when you take a dip :rotfl:

Seriously though, I'm not making fun of you. I really hadn't even thought about it and we are going to be there for 3 weeks so they will be well worn by the time we come home. I believe in a bit of exposure to germs to keep our immune systems strong.

You don't need to constantly wear it. You can keep it in your pocket or bag.

WDW is so germy, I don't think these will add to it.

I think the constant use of smartphones is another factor. People wash their hands, but how often to they wipe their phones?

Same thing as a watch or bracelet... Unwashed hands are probably a bigger problem since people touch everything.

I wouldn't call myself a germaphobe, just cautious Maybe it works maybe it doesn't but it makes me feel better and I rarely if ever get sick I wipe down my MB and my cell phones over the years with a Clorox wipe I also do the keyboard, mouse, telephone, etc and all surface contacts when I go into work and take over the spot for my shift Try not to obsess about it, keep yourself with good hygiene practices and have a great time :thumbsup2

Just wash the thing. We wore ours even in the pools. I would just take it under the sink and use some soap. It's pretty waterproof.

Yeah...I think this may just be "you" --to answer your question directly. Wearing a MB is no different than wearing my watch. Just don't lick the Mickey head and you'll be fine. (Where is the tag fairy when you need her?)

I wear very little jewelry, sometimes none. I hadn't made the connection. But you are correct. I'm sure WDW is no more germy than the pre band days. Ha.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not freaking out or panicking or anything. It just crossed my mind that they seem to be kind of a porous material that would surely make the rounds. Just wondered if anyone else kinda gets that vibe.

Got the Clorox wipes! I'm good.

Ok, not just you. Was totally disgusted by it by the end of the week. I don't do jewelry or a watch, but the band was visibly dirty, especially the kid's bands. They also played with them constantly. I washed them every night and we dipped in the pool, but I still found them icky. I also thought it was a little awkward and clunky on the wrist......I can't even imagine how you will survive in it in the summer as it was HOT to wear.

Maybe I'll take before and after photos of our magic bands to see if there is a visual grunge factor.

And yeah, I am more creeped out by OTHER people's magicgerms than the ones in my family. Lol.

I just think I think about this stuff way too much. My family would agree!! I drive them nuts! LOL!! FWIW, my DS4 yellow band is black in multiple spots. That's when I REALLY started thinking, KWIM?

every time I go out. true germ freak here:rotfl2:

I eventually took my MB off before I used the restroom because I was worried about cleanliness. That's also how I managed to lose it. They're waterproof though so soap and water should do it if you're worried about it getting a bit filthy.

Seeing a woman's purse on the table is probably a lot grosser than a magic band. I mean, how many people put a magic band on the floor of a bathroom stall? I see that all the time with purses...

It would have never occured to me. It doesn't really touch anything except the Mickey Heads on the kiosks and your forearm. I think mine still looks pristine after our trip.

We used our magic bands for a full week, back in December, and there's no visible grunge on them. They look the same as when we first got them (except for the fact that I've now painted polka-dots all over mine, I mean!).

My husband took his off every night. I left mine on the entire time.

Mind you, we're adults. I don't need to be constantly washing my jewellery or watches, either. The material isn't that porous. More like a Swatch band, or something.
