Magic Bands 101

I am Going to DW in August. can I have someone that will be there next week, buy the Frozen magic bands for me, if I give them the magic band information off of MDE? I heard that you can't purchase them without them being activated right there.

I am wondering the same thing. I would love to get one for my DD.
 
Need some help here. I had AP for my last trip (used MB's for it) but it has since expired.

I am possibly need to book a trip for this August 2nd (I know, nothing like last min.!!). I am thinking about getting AP again. How does this work with MB's? Will they ship MB's this late? Will my MDE be totally confused if I add new AP to account?

Will I even be able to get any FP+ reservations this late in the planning stage?

If you buy your AP on the Disney site you can assign it to you when you buy it, so it will be linked and allow you to book FP+. I 'think' your account might have both APs listed, but only this one would be 'active?' Not totally sure about that part ;).

They can also ship MBs this close to a trip. My sister just decided she'd be able to join us, so I called and had her added and then logged in and customized her MB. It immediately said customize now, will ship soon. It shipped about 2 days after I added her, and arrived about a week later.
 

Can I buy a Magic Band and not link it at the parks? I want to get one in August for someone that is going on a trip with us in October (we are staying off site). I have a profile created for him on my MDE and he has a MNSSHP ticket assigned to him (no regular ticket). Is that enough to link it if I am required to do so?

Additionally, can I get and link a Magic Band for a Passholder that is also on my MDE? I won't have his annual pass (he misplaced it) but again he's on my MDE. He has a Magic Band already but wants a second one.

- for the friend with the MNSSHP ticket: take in his ticket so that it can be linked to the MB at time of purchase.

- for the Passholder: take in his current MB to have the new one linked to it

There has to be a ticket, a MB, or a Memory Maker account in order to buy a new MB.
 
Don't know if this has been asked yet but how can we get an old magicband under a different name linked to the correct name person: example: Mary Smith has a magic band and MDE profile under her full name of Mary Smith Jones and now has booked a trip using only her maiden name of Mary Smith. Any way to have the old Mary smith jones band linked for Mary smith? Thanks!

If she is using the same MDEx profile she will be all set. If she made a new profile for her new name she will have to call Disney IT.

Do you receive an email when they ship out the magic bands?

Yes. I got an email from Disney Destinations saying
Great News: Your MAGICBAND package has shipped!
along with the tracking number.

Also, there was a "notification" on my MyDisneyExperience page :thumbsup2 (at the very top, under your name)

I'm not sure how long this has been there, but in MDX on the Tickets and Bands page there is a spot at the bottom to link a Magic Band.

This is the wording on the page:

Don't See a Purchased MagicBand?If you purchase a MagicBand and don't do in-store set-up, you'll need to link the MagicBand ID Number to your account.

I tried to have someone buy a Star Wars MB for me but she was told that the band needed to be linked on the spot. Looks like that might not be the case going forward. Good news for those wanting Frozen MBs that are not at the parks.
 
I wanted someone to pick up frozen magic bands for me this week for our trip in August. Are they able to do that now? I got my MM card after they left for their trip. :( I would think that giving people the option to buy magic bands without linking them would cause a big problem of people clearing the shelves to sell them on eBay.
 
Keep an eye on the tracking once you receive your email!! Those of us on the July thread experienced multiple issues with them either being lost or being left on a truck only to go back to the original destination and then back out again! Thus taking over a week to arrive. If your trip is approaching quickly and your turn around shipping time is tight, keep an eye on it closely!

I have not had a problem receiving my magic bands, but my magical express package went missing twice before my last trip and actually never arrived. I have a PO Box and a physical address and it always causes confusion.

My MB box shipped two days ago via USPS. I was at the post office this morning making sure that they are aware that the box is coming since I don't know how it was addressed. The guy at the counter says to me "Don't worry, any time we see anything from Mr. Disney we figure it is for you. " :rotfl::rotfl:

I have a split stay, so I get two sets of MBs.

The email for my 1st set came July 11 and I rec'd them yesterday (the 15th).
The email for my 2d set came July 14 and my MBs arrived today (the 16th)!

That's hilarious!

Just a note...the box is not marked as being from Disney in any way. It's a plain brown box and it's sent from a distribution center in Davenport, FL.
