I went into the Swan gift shop this morning, and they had tons of them. The clerk showed me a few, and we chatted a bit, but I had already told her that I wasn’t going to buy one today. She mentioned “there should be 70 different patterns by the end of the year” and “The parks will have long lines for them, as people don’t know we have them in all of the resorts’. I laughed, and then went over to Disney Springs to pick up my passholder magnet.
While heading over to get my magnet at about 10 AM, there was a long line in front of a shop, with people running to get in line. I thought at first it was a line for magnets, as there were a LOT of people and not much was open. It turns out it was a line for the magicband+! I got my magnet (no line) and walked back, and by the time I got back to that spot, it was about 92 degrees and there were HUNDREDS of people inline. It went back and forth many times, across the walkway and around the building across the street. I was gobsmacked! All this for a magicband because it’s new?
All those people in the sun, at 90+ degrees (it was 98 by noon) to buy something frivolous and not useful reminded me of the Figment popcorn buckets. I don’t get it at all. But apparently Disney knows how to create a buzz out of nothing, as this was amazing watching adults running in 90+ heat to stand in line to buy one!
