A WDW newbie...me! :wave2: ...is trying to get a better idea of what the ride "Maelstrom" in Norway is like.

I have read the description from various sources, but find them rather vague.

I'm trying to figure out if it's too "wild" for my boys (ages 11, 8, and 6). (The 11 year old is actually the most ride-leary one, believe it or not.)

TiA!!! :)

To me it seemed fast (edit: Meaning a Short Ride) . There was a little drop at the end, backwards; I might add. Also at the end there is a video to watch.

It is anything but wild in my opinion. It's very tame. Mostly it's just a look at what Viking life was like- you see some polar bears and some trolls....not scarry though. I think it's fun!

It is a boat ride that talks about Norway and vikings. At one point you go down the hill backwards. It's not wild. At the end you can view to watch a film about Norway. I have ridden it about 4-5 times and yet to see the film. Maybe next time.

It seems like an average, semi boring boat ride until the last 30 seconds. I loved it, and know that my same aged boys will to. I think my dd will flip out and am trying to convince dh to let her skip this one.

SPOILER.... Do not read this unless you have to. At the end it looks like the boat is going to be shoved out a hole into nomansland... but at the last moment you switch directions unexpectedly and shoot down a slide. It isn't REAL steep (you aren't even buckled into the boat!) but it is the suspense and shock that makes it fun. I loved it!

BTW, it is quite easy to skip the movie at the end. Just walk on through and leave.

I rode the thing late a night with no one but me and the BF! It was a little creepy at that time of night...but not scary. Its a short ride with a little drop (you dont get wet).

How big is the drop compared to ... well compared to anything I guess? My DGF can't do big drops (although we're hoping ginger pills take care of that for the trip) without being sick.

It's not a big drop at all; something like the drop at the start of Pirates. It's not steep and it's pretty short.

My DD6 princess: was a little freaked out at the 3 headed troll. I can't imagine anyone over that age being bothered by anything in the ride.

IMO it is a tame little boat ride. The drop is like the begining of pirates but the rest is much more boring. It is one better than the boat ride in mexico. My DD was 3 and didn't notice the drop and wasn't scared at all. BTW she is scared of POC, Dinosaur, TOT, and Haunted mansion. Your boys will probably think it is boring.

well its definately one of the most corniest rides in EPCOT we ever rode. :goodvibes But we still go on it just for the simple line "Oe'r De FALLS!" i say that all the time back home. Take the boys on it. They will be fine

DD rode this at 3 and 4 and will ride again this year at 5. We called it mini-splash mountain, to give a way to try and get her to ride splash mountain. I think your boys will do fine.

As a ride it's not bad, but given you have things like Pirates of the Caribbean and Splash Mountain at the world (and a hell of a lot more besides!!!!) , it can be missed . I remember as a kid liking it because it was the only really cool thing in the world showcase i.e. a ride!. Now I'm far more cultured of course :thumbsup2 so I love the whole WS; if I can't get a FP or if the line was more than 15 minutes I'd probably give Maelstrom a miss.

Try it with your boys - if they can't take the Maelstrom they'll struggle a bit at Disney. But I suspect they'll be fine.

Enjoy.
