Can't really tell much about those two pics. Whether it turns out to be an overlay, a repurposing, reusing of the existing ride track or a total ground up construct. Those two pics don't show anything really. Personally I hope it's truly a new build.
This is one of the few improvements I'm not thrilled about.
Frozen is not at all relevant to Norway, other than the geography being loosely modeled after that of Norway. They could have done so much more w this, and not taken away an otherwise enjoyable attraction.
I would have put Frozen in place of Ellen's Energy, and built that pavilion up into a crystal palace. Then you've got the water zone to the right, and ice to the left as you enter the park. Balanced! Nice! Each theme based on it's own mega-popular movie.
It'd be ditching a junk ride instead of a moderately popular one, and giving Frozen it's own defining corner of the park instead of killing off Norway.
Then you make Frozen, Soarin and TT tier-1, and move Maelstrom to Tier-2 which would alleviate the feelings of Tier-2 being worthless.
All I can think... is that Maelstrom got too costly relative to the # of ppl riding it, and probly Akershus seeing insufficient bookings, thus reskinning that w Elsa will boost it's mega-pricey buffet.
The twitter account says that the photos are from the entry way. I think we all knew that the queue area was going to be completely redone to maximize space. These photos don't really tell us anything about the ride.
Good I'm glad it's getting gutted. I was never a fan of Maelstrom anyway. We only went on because there was never a line. But I remember feeling trapped into watching that awful movie at the end. Good riddance!
