L3 and L4 laminetomy. no fusion .. now i wait .. still off work . hope the money fairy pays my bills..
any one out there have more than 1 back surgery???
:goodvibes thanks for the PD

Yep. Had a laminectomy on L3 &4. Was very careful and followed drs orders. 8 months later they were reherniated and I had to have a fusion. I have great employers, never took drugs, and some days worked for 2 hours, some days worked 5-6, and some days couldn't make it at all. I was in bad shape from September til January when I had the fusion. It took about 9 months to recover from the fusion and there are many things the dr did not tell me and many things I would do differently now.

Had my first surgery when I was 18 when I herniated L4 and L5. The doctor did a temporary surgery called a percataneous discectomy. The doctor knew that it was just a temporary fix (would only last for a couple of years), but I was only 18 and he didn't want to do a full blown surgery on me.

Sure enough 6 years later I rupture L4&5 and herniated 3. The doctor removed the rupture ones and left the herniated one alone because it wasn't that bad. It took me about 6 weeks to recover.

That last surgery was in 1996 and I haven't really had any direct problems with my back that are disc related. All of my problems are from the arthritis that I developed because of the injuries and the muscles in my back have never been quite right because I still have spasms every now and again.

Would I have both surgeries again? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!

I ruptured my L5, S1 and bulged my L4 two years ago this week. They had to go in and take care of the L5 and the S1, but left the L4 alone because it wasn't as bad.

My father broke his back in the mid 80s. The first few surgeries involved his L5, L4 and L3. He has had a total of 5 surgeries on those. His doctor went in and built boxes around them. Taking the pressure off of them. He also has 2 steel rods on each side of his spine. Keeping them from moving.

About 5 years ago he sneezed (yes sneezed) and ruptured his C7 in his neck. They went in through the front of his throat and fixed that one. Just this past Dec he sneezed yet again and bulged the C6 and C8. He is in therapy traction for this to keep from having to have surgery.

Good luck!!
