Welcome to the October 2024 exercise thread! This month, we'll be gazing into Madame Leota's crystal ball to see what future Disney will (or at least might) bring.

If you’re returning, we’re excited to have you back! If you’re new, welcome to the team! Here’s how it works:

Each person chooses a time goal and posts minutes towards that goal as they exercise. You can post daily or just catch up when you can. You decide what movement counts towards your goal - which can be a nice round total for the month, a specific number that means something to you, or a calculation based on a target number of minutes per day. Since October has 31 days, here are some common conversions:

15 minutes/day = 465
20 minutes/day = 620
30 minutes/day = 930
45 minutes/day = 1395
1 hour/day = 1860

One of the special motivations of our Disney challenge is color changing! Page one will be updated with individual and team color changes as we make more and more progress:

10% - Blue Sky
25% - Onward Orange
50% - Prognostication Purple
75% - Forward-Looking Fuschia
90% - Reinvent Red
100% - Glimpse Green

We’re officially starting this challenge on October 1, but if you don’t find the thread until later in the month, you’re still welcome to join! There's no better time than the present to start toward your goals!! Just post your goal and I’ll add you to the list. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions and to check out old threads to see what’s been going on.

Team:

Elizabeth Smith - 750/770
FreeTime - 850/3600
PollyannaMom - 475/600
Raya - 500/720
ShannyMcB - 266/375

sophy1996 - 1300/1200
Twilight Sparkle - 3040/2500

Team: 7181/9765 73.5%

Our first color category this month is "Blue Sky." This is a term Disney uses to refer to project ideas that are being tossed around, but that may or may not actually become real. The D23 conventions generally have a Blue Sky panel. Here's an article asking whether these presentations go too far in teasing projects that will never see the light of day.

I'm in! Going for 720 minutes, a reasonable increase from last month. October is usually crazy busy for us, so I'm challenging myself to do exercise snacks - sets of movement under 10 minutes sprinkled through the day. Well the days I didn't actually work out anyway.😝

Starting off with 60 minutes at the gym yesterday.

60/720 - 8%

I’m in for 3600. I’m at 370/3600. Shooting high as I have been working up to 10 miles of walking a day. To get there, I need to add on 2 hours (just about 7 miles at a 17 min pace) walking each evening outside of my normal daily movement.

Thanks for doing this. It will be great to get moving!

Welcome, everyone, and congratulations to new member FreeTime and to me for turning Blue Sky! The TEAM has almost reached Blue Sky, coming in at 9% so far.

Back at D23 in 2022, there was a Blue Sky concept called "Beyond Big Thunder." At this year's D23, Disney announced that Beyond Big Thunder was coming to the Magic Kingdom, with a new Villains Land expansion in the area behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Estimated to be 12-14 acres, it will be the biggest expansion in MK history. Here's an article discussing the new land.

Thanks for taking October, @sophy1996 ! I went "ooooo" when I read the line about Madame Leota! So fun! :)

I really have no idea how to set a goal this time, but my hours at the barn should be decreasing now, so I will say 2500. Hopefully I can actually fit some runs in this month.

720 minutes so far - all horses

720/2500

Congratulations to Twilight Sparkle for jumping in at Onward Orange and to ShannyMcB for turning Blue Sky! The Team is Blue Sky but heading toward Onward Orange!

Villains Land isn't the only new space coming to MK. At D23, Disney announced it will be reimagining Frontierland to include CarsLand. The new land is projected to have two new attractions, one a rally race (presumably like Radiator Springs Racers at DCA?) and one for smaller guests. Work starts in 2025.

This one kind of makes me sad for a couple of reasons. First, CarsLand at DCA is pretty awesome, depositing you right into Radiator Springs. It feels like adding a CarsLand to MK takes away from the California parks. Second, to make room for this new CarsLand, MK will be losing Tom Sawyer Island and (at least part of) the Rivers of America). Here's an article discussing why that's a mistake.

Thanks, @sophy1996 for hosting this month. I really love the color names! 🤣

Initially I wasn't going to try to name them, but then I thought of Blue Sky. My DH and I had fun figuring the others out. (Forward-Looking Fuschia was one of his.)

I was pretty happy when I thought of that--a little October spooky connection!

850/3600 spent a few hours today walking around Epcot.

I think this group will agree, those are the best kinds of minutes!

+60 minutes at the gym this weekend. I'm going to try for some yoga tonight, but I don't have much faith. Thanks to the hurricane we canceled our MNSSHP trip. :sad1: There's a chance the airport could be open for our flights and maybe everything would be normal, but with the amount of money on the line and the uncertainty of the next few months, canceling is the right thing to do. Still sad though. Our last 3 trips have hit a hurricane. Trying to get over it, and focus on the next trip, which is only 367 days away. :)

120/720 - 16%

Congratulations to Elizabeth Smith and me on turning Onward Orange and to Raya for turning Blue Sky! And by rounding up by a *very small* (0.04) percent, the TEAM is Onward Orange as well!

Another new addition to the MK will arrive as soon as next year--a Pirates of the Caribbean tavern. This one was first announced in 2023 and confirmed this year. Behold the return of Peg-Leg Pete!

+150 of Growwithjo, Chloe Ting, yoga, and walking this weekend. It was a very rough weekend and I think I'm coming out of it with a cold. 🫠

205/770

Sorry to hear it was a rough weekend. Hope you're feeling better quickly!

Oh no, that's so sad that you had to cancel your trip! I hear you about the uncertainty. We ended up canceling a trip last December during the weekend that, as it turned out, the weather was so horrible Disney canceled the DHS Jollywood Nights party entirely. It's just not fun when the weather is that bad.
