Macy's

As for the person who wants to know why you care because you wash clothes before you wear them, that is the most absurd thing I have heard, the only thing i wash before wearing is underwear. I don't know a single person who washes brand new clothes before wearing them.

Ewwww seriously?? I don't know anyone that doesn't wash the clothes before they wear them! With all the people trying them on and hands touching them and chemicals sprayed on them I would want them on my body without washing them first!

We had a whole thread last year on the DIS regarding washing new clothes before wearing. There were several people who have started having allergic reactions to new clothes due to the chemicals being put in the clothing.

I was everything now before I wear it with the exception of things that need to be drycleaned (suits) because I will always have a blouse underneath. Those things don't touch my skin.

That's crazy. I was in American Eagle yesterday and bought a bunch of clothes. They were all folded before they were put into the bag. If American Eagle can do it, Macy's can do it.

I was surprised to read that some people don't wash them first! I would never wear anything without washing it first, because my skin is very sensitive to the chemicals. (I've even gotten a rash in the past just trying things on in the store!) I once read an article about a case where a batch of clothes (jeans, I think) accidentally got too much of one of the chemicals poured on them. People who wore them without washing became very ill, those who washed them first were fine.

I grew up and spent most of my life not washing new clothes (except underwear) and never had a problem. In fact, I *loved* putting on new, crisp clothing because it never looks better than that day! It was only in the last 10 years that I started washing them. One, because my skin has become very sensitive and two, because I've read how much more "stuff" is being added to clothing to make it presentable prior to selling. And God knows what they are doing to the clothes made in China--there's no regulation there it seems. So, now I wash.

Not necessarily. American Eagle is much smaller than Macy's, yet seems to run with a lot more associates.

I work at an anchor store in a mall (think JCP, or Macy's or Kohls-like) and we are always amazed at how much more help the smaller stores seem to have then the larger stores.

It sort of bugs me for a cashier in any store to just cram clothing that I'm buying in the bag.

I don't expect it to be folded perfectly or anything like that, but at least half-way fold it, don't just shove it in the bag.

I've never worked retail, so maybe I don't fully understand, I guess.

Although, I do have to say that I've bought some things (like tops) at Walmart, and have had a handful of cashiers attempt to fold the clothing before placing it in the bag, but most times, it's just crammed in the bag.

Guess I never considered Macy's a higher end store. I don't see it much different than Kohls, especially with the multitude of coupons, etc they run.

Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, and some of the smaller specialty stores, those I would be annoyed at.

A large chain department store - par for the course.

Did you complain? They are suppose to have 36 inches between each rack. You really need to complain to a manager so they know someone is not doing their job right.

Oh, yes. I complained to the floor manager. She listened carefully to my complaint and made apologies. But nothing changed. That's why I no longer shop there. The manager paid lip service to calm me down(not that I was out of hand) but did nothing about the racks.

There are plenty of other places to shop. It's not like Macy's is the only game in town--Belk is not far away from Macy's and Kohl's is only just in the next town, right off the interstate.

I buy lots of clothes at CJ Banks and have noticed that they no longer wrap the clothes in tissue before bagging them, but they do still fold them!

I noticed this as well. I do love the service and clothes at Christopher and Banks.

Hey fellow NJ person! Glad to see I'm not the only person having those experiences! Is this Paramus Park and GSP, Woodbridge and Menlo, or somewhere else? ;)

Hey, fellow Jersey person! Menlo and Woodbridge...both just nasty stores.

Believe it or not, how many racks a store has, and where they are placed is also dictated by the home office. Individual stores get a map of the salesfloor telling them where each rack must go. That is another complaint that needs to be made to the company headquarters in order for it to have any impact. A store manager can only nod their head and listen.
