Macaroni and cheese and hot dogs??

I had a friend that used to do it like that. While I agree it's kid friendly, possibly comfort food, I wouldn't eat it. Mac and cheese alone (homemade) is pretty good stuff tho!

This is what has me so confused. I'm a damn good cook. I love to cook. He loves to eat my cooking. He'll eat my home made mac and cheese until he's sick. But tonight he wants the boxed crap :confused3 That's like telling Rembrandt to just draw you a stick figure with a crayon :sad2:

Yep...I've heard of it. I've had it. You never knew what my mom was going to put in Mac & Cheese. We've also added tuna fish on occassion (NOT tuna fish & hot dogs together with the Mac & Cheese :scared: )

How my mom did it was -- make the Mac & Cheese; boil the hot dogs, then cut the hot dogs up into small bite sizes; throw that into the Mac & Cheese & mix.

Tuna fish -- you open the can; drain, add to Mac & Cheese; stir.

It is just totally blowing my mind that macaroni & cheese with hot dogs in it is something strange or different to anyone. It's like finding out someone has never heard of pizza or something.

There are a couple of schools of thought on making it. The central difference is whether you cook the hot dog slices with the pasta or separately. You can't beat cooking the hot dogs in with the pasta for ease of preparation, plus the cuts develop a distinctive bowed shape.

But, I personally prefer them cooked separately and folded in after the mac & cheese is prepared. I think boiling the hot dog bits in the water tends to leach the fat out, which in turn leaves them somewhat bland/flavorless. The "hot dog" taste is richer if you cook them separately, then cut them and add them in.

:scratchin Hmmm...that would be a good crock pot dish wouldn't it? I'll have to add that to my Disney Dinners Done Easy cookbook. ;)

Mmmmmm......my mom used to make that for my brother and I when we were kids. I've made it a few times, but my DS5 is unlike any kid I know. He doesn't like mac & cheese :confused3

I've never made it with hotdogs (though I have heard of people doing that). I like to make it with cubed ham slices. I know it's crazy, but I only like Kraft Macaroni and Cheese - I don't like the home made kind. I just make Kraft like regular, add in the cubed ham, and bake it at 350 for about half an hour. Sometimes I'll add tuna instead of ham.

Now you're making me hungry and I've already finished my dinner tonight :rotfl: .

I've made it with cubed ham and have had it with tuna fish as well. Both are excellent :thumbsup2

OH yummmy!! We make the mac and cheese and then fry up some cut up hotdog and onion...It's wonderful!!! :cool1:

When I was a kid all I wanted for dinner was Kraft mac and cheese and boiled oscar meyer hot dogs LOL I guess I was not alone. Eventually I graduated to Penut Butter sandwiches, no jelly and pizza with the sauce and cheese taken off :)

Hey Boogie, I said this over there, but you may have missed it...........this happens to be my favorite dish. ;) F'real.

My youngest daughter loves that and asked me if we can have that again for dinner one night this week. YUCK. I will make it for lunch so I don't have to eat it.

Well you are welcome to it my love :crazy2: Maybe it's because we didn't eat that kind of stuff as kids but I thought it was very bland. Next time I'm making my own mac and cheese, throwing in veggies and cubed ham and sprinkling it with bread crumbs and baking it.

I've just been informed that's not even remotely the same thing :rotfl:

My DH makes Mac N Cheese with a cut up hot dog in it for himself if I am not cooking! I think hamburgers, mac n cheese and hot dogs are the only items he can "cook!"...oh and a PB & J....can't forget that....then I will make Mickey waffles for DD and I for dinner! Love breakfast for dinner...yum!

I personally think yuck but hey, whatever floates your boat.
Is your husband the same guy that posted yesterday about drinking the hot dog juice from the plastic bag? :lmao:

OK the mac n' cheese and hot dog thing we did as kids and I still do it now and then. :thumbsup2 Drinking hot dog juice? :scared:

I love putting my hot dog right in my mac and cheese! :goodvibes

My dd, however, hates it that way and wants to eat them separately. :confused3 She has more grown-up taste than I do. :rolleyes1

I personally don't get the whole deal with macaroni cheese at all. You people in the US are obsessed by the darn stuff :rotfl:

That said, I do make myself fish fingers and alphabites after a bad day :goodvibes

Perhaps cybrikitn's son has a strong British gene:confused3
