DH is taking the Gateway laptop to Iraq with him and leaving me with his new Powerbook G4. I am not familiar with Apple so I am "figuring it out". The internet screen, in fact the Disboard screen that I am on now doesn't fill the who screen but I think it could if I knew the right icon. Does anyone know?

using mine right now - pull the bottom right grey tab over to whatever size you like.

Wow, that was easy. Is there a back space button, I don't see it.

You mean to go back a page when you are on the internet?
If you using Safari as your browser, the are 3 little circles at the top of the menu bar on the left side of the window. The little arrow that points to the left takes you back a page.

If you are talking about the keyboard, the delete button is at the top of the far right of the keyboard and works the same as backspace on a PC (the little key above it with an arrow that points up with a line underneat is the top key on the right - that's for opening or ejecting CDs/DVDs). If you want to go back without deleting, then use the up, down or sideways buttons at the far right bottom of the keyboard.

Another cool thing - if you use one finger on the trackpad, it just moves the cursor around on the part of the page that you can see. If you use 2 fingers, you can scroll all over the page to see the rest of the window (the part that is too big to fit on the screen).

I really like the Dashboard on this little Mac. I like the sticky notes. Can I have more than one sticky note up at a time and is it only so big?

I would close the disboards, goto ebay, put it up for sale, then buy a windows based laptop. :cool1:

I can't stand the pop ups that we would get with windows. After having two windows lap tops, this one is wonderful. I haven't seen a pop up since we got it. The screen is beautiful, the keys are a wonderful size, its just different. DH is getting the gateway ready to go with him and I have aleady made my "separation" from it. I am not sure I will give this Apple back to him when he gets home. ;) I actually like the lap tops better than the PCs

You could use Mozilla Firefox instead of IE and that eliminates pop ups on a windows machine. The problem is that almost everyone runs windows so all developers/ hackers and script kiddies like to write to have their junk run in a microsoft environment like Internet Exploder and you'll find Mac OS is more secure simply because there arent nearly as many viruses and hacks out there for it.

Also Apple is well known for having better aesthetics than almost any PC/laptop intel based maker out there except maybe some of the "boutique" system builders but I dont count those as that's like comparing a nice Ford or Chevy to a custom hot rod builder. And Apple makes some great displays too. The three major things I dislike about Apple is 1) they dont game worth a darn [I am a hard core gamer] :3dglasses 2) You dont have good upgrade options :badpc: and 3) in a business environment almost everyone runs windows :surfweb: and even though you can port some of the MS stuff over, it just doesnt run well on Mac OS.

You obviously dont know what computers are for.

Gaming.

We gamers just have the rest of you fools finance the R&D so we can get better frame rates on Doom3!!!!!!

Mac's are just a freak of nature....but they look pretty.

The future DarWINE for the Intel based macs is reported to have good compatibility - basically, within the year you'll be able to play all windows based apps on a mac within the mac system at native speed.

BOOM!

No more need for Windows ;)

[EDIT] Of course, you can emulate the entire Mac system on a Windows PC - if you don't mind having to install a whole second OS, which you don't have to with a Mac.

Dawn - I believe you can have more than one stickie open at a time. Click on the lower left button on the Dashboard screen (the + sign) and scoll along until you find the stickies. Simply drag one onto the screen and voila! More stickies :)

And yes, you can have as many stickies as you like and make then any size - just pull the bottom right tab like on the web browser...

I found the stack of sticky notes (LOVE 'EM). I downloaded the Disney countdown calendar. I love it! We are going to Hawaii instead but I will consider it my Disney of the S. Pacific! I got it running for Hawaii!

You can have many stickies, many different colors, using different fonts, and any size- just grab the bottom right hand corner and pull, just like your browser window.

You know what they say- once you go Mac, you never go back!!!

I love my ipod so much I considered a Mac but I couldnt find out if it worked without plugins with Yahoo Messenger or Yahoo Chat. I use those everday. I also use cucusoft ipod video converter and not sure it works with that either. :confused3

I know that Yahoo doesn't support the Mac in chat, not sure about messenger though. They rally need to get with the times- there are a lot of us Mac users out there.

There are actually 2 sets of stickies on the Mac.
You can get more of the first kind the way the dcentity2000 mentioned.

But, if you want WAY MORE stickies, look on your dock and see if you have an icon that looks like a little pile of 3 sticky notes. If it does, you can click that and get to a stickies program.
If it doesn't, you can find it in the Applications folder.

And, here's a link to Mac 101 - The Grand Tour, which is a useful overview just to get your bearings.

Thanks for the link. I really like both piles of stickies. Since I knew nothing about the mac until yesterday, the link will be very useful. Its really a great little computer. I don't think I will want to give it back to DH when he gets home from Iraq. ;)

I use Adium for my Yahoo! messenger and others - much nicer and just as free. Skinnable chat views! :)
