should I be concerned?? I called the emergency vet and they said it was normal!!!!! She is just 4 months old...Weimaraner...but....I thought she had to learn this stuff!!!!!!!!.....the bird was ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel terrible....Hey..I know there are fellow Weim owners out there......HELP!!!

Thanks
Lisa

If the emergency vets say it's ok I wouldn't be too worried she'll be harmed. I imagine she may not feel so well for a while. :confused3

Poor birdie... :guilty:

Ewwwww....

How is it supposed to come out?

Dogs do eat weird stuff don't they? I once had a pan of dinner rolls rising on the stove and my dog ate about six of them. I called the vet and he said not to worry. I had visions of the buns "rising" in her stomach but the acid in the stomach deactivates the yeast. But a bird . . . that is a whole other story. I guess if the vet says it is okay it must be but that is one tough thing to digest I would imagine. Now I am curious though how did she get the bird? That is one beautiful puppy by the way. I love Weimanars.

but this was a WHOLE bird...she did not "chew" it up....Totally whole

That is a beautiful pup but right now she is making me gag.

How did she get a hold of it?

Many owners are now feeding their dogs a "raw diet" sometimes consisting of whole chicken parts, bones and all. They claim it's healty and natural and the dogs don't seem harmed by it (there have been threads here about it). Unless the bird had germs or something it will be digested just fine and most likely not cause any other problems other than indigestion and agita. :drinking1 I guess you're about to find out if that little pup of yours has a rock solid stomach or not, LOL.

I would definitely take the dog to a vet tomorrow for a stomach x-ray, I can't imagine how a dog would pass a WHOLE bird. :confused3

Hope it works out for you and your pup.

Mabel is now 4 months old..and right now seems to be ok....she was just playing in the yard where it is unseen...but when she came running out I tried to get it.....similar to a "dryer sheet" that she would have........

The idea of swallowing an entire live bird probably bothers us humans more than it bothers Mabel.

But yuck, yuck, yuck, pooey!

did it look like this? :maleficen
then i would be concerned.
otherwise it will most likely pass.

It's amazing what a dog can swallow.

When mine was about the same age, he slightly chewed then swallowed a roofing nail and shingle. While I was on the phone trying to get a hold of the vet, he threw it back up. The nail didn't harm him at all.

I'm glad to read that dogs can digest chicken bones, but I knew that already. The last couple of times I made fried chicken, Max managed to snag a piece and eat it whole, bones and all. I worried about him choking, but he was fine.

Dogs are really crazy! Oh, and yours is beautiful, Lisa. Enjoy. :)

The other day Suzy ate a baby bird. (no feathers) :crazy2: I didn't even know she ate it, that is until she threw it up. :scared: :crazy2: :faint: It looked like a little brain. That was a job for DH. I don't do puke. :crazy2::sad2:

Tell her that she needs to POINT the birds not SWALLOW them. She's just confused.
My Weim ate (and passed) an entire dish rag- more than once I'm afraid. She's also eaten tennis balls, sponges, socks, you name it- she'll try to eat it.

Unless she starts chirping I wouldn't worry about her.

My sister feeds her dog a raw diet. I've seen this dog eat some STRANGE stuff whole (frozen chicken necks???), and she's a LOT smaller breen than Mabel. I think that your dog will be fine. Poor birdie, though :maleficen

I agree I think it bothers us as humans more than it bothers the dog. She is beautiful!

My poodle is a vacuum cleaner of sorts. He eats all kinds of junk that I am unaware of sometimes. He either digests it or pukes it. My Lab has a more discriminate taste though.

I pity the rabbits in my yard. I caught the two dogs sort of cornering one yesterday. They are wild rabbits and they both took chase to it. I'm sure I'll fudind rabbits parts eventually.

I would call the vet but if he isn't worried, you shouldn't be. We have friends with 2 weimeraners and last week one ate the older daughter's retainer! They get just about anything.
