Lynchburg - Worth a visit??

I am quite interested in visiting Lynchburg when I am in Tn next year and was just wondering if anyone had been there and what they think of it?

I would really like to do the tour of the Jack Daniel's Distillery but need to know if my little sister who is 12 would be allowed to do it? And also if anyone has done the BBQ Hill bbq?

Last time I was there was 1996 or 1997. As far as I remember, there was no age limit on the tour (just looked it up on-line and there is no age limit). There's no tasting as it's a "dry" county. I think the distillery is the only place you can buy JD, and then in commerative bottles only, not regular.

You should try Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House for lunch/dinner.

Yes I had read it was dry, thats fine, but we will probably purchase some commerative bottles for souvenirs (I don't really like JD TBH).

I have heard that Miss Mary's is good but not sure if we would like the food, what is the menu like?

Miss Mary Bobo's is downhome cooking. It's like eating at home with a large family. You don't get private tables. There are various tables throughout and you sit down with a bunch of other people (say 12 or so). Then the food comes in big plates/bowls and is passed around the table. I remember fried chicken, mashed potatoes and corn(not sure why I remember corn, but that's clear in my head).
