Hi Disboards,

I will be at Disney World with a friend who uses a rollator walker. She has never used lyft or uber or even a taxi. I did read both companies statement (lyft & uber) and they both appear to be able to accommodate. I can assist her with folding the rollator and placing it in the vehicle, helping her if needed. Does anyone have actual experience (positive or negative) using rideshare, lyft uber with rollators at Disney ? Any suggestions ?

I've used Lyft, Uber, and Minnie Vans (accessed via Lyft) all over the Orlando area including Disney with a non folding manual wheelchair. It is no big deal and having moved my mom's rollator between a lot of vehicles I'm fairly sure that will be super simple to manage as well. You won't even need "accessible" rides. A folded rollator will fit in just about any car I've ever encountered.

I second this. I've used Uber and Lyft all over the country, including extensively in Orlando, with my dad when he was on an ECV that needed to be broken down and placed in the trunk. Never had an issue, and the drivers were even willing to help lift the pieces. When Dad got out of the hospital with home oxygen about a bout of sepsis, the Uber driver even walked him to the door and lifted the oxygen tank up the front steps for him. A folded rollator is an absolute non-event for them.

Folded rollator should be no problem. Have used Uber in Orlando with my Mom and her wheelchair. It folds easily. When I see that the car is approaching, I fold the wheelchair up (Mom can walk a bit with her cane to get in the car) and roll it to the trunk. Every driver (or Bell Services) I have encountered wants to be the one to put the wheelchair in the trunk and take it out. I have kind of assumed it is because they know their cars best and want to put it in so as to cause no damage. Or maybe they think I can't lift it (although I toss it in and out of my car all the time).

I have also helped my aunt with her rollator when she used to use uber. I would wait with her until the car would come and then make sure she got into the car and folded the rollator and gave to the drivers who again wanted to load it themselves.

I am sure not all drivers are willing to lift it in and out of the car, but my experience has been every driver we have had as wanted to. I always tip well and if they help with the wheelchair, I tip a bit more.

I have used Uber with a manual wheelchair, both alone and when with other people. Most drivers were friendly and helpful. I had two that refused to take me (strangely, both these times I was with other people who would have done the chair lifting). One of spoke to the people I was with and asked why they didn't say they had a "handicapped person" with them, and I said they didn't order it, it's my account, and he kept talking about insurance and that I had to call up an ambulette service. No, I do not have to call up an ambulette service to go to the train station. The other drove right by and said he didn't take wheelchairs. I don't foresee any problems using these services with a rollator.
