We've never been to either and would like to try one for lunch on our next trip. We've got a large age range. We need a place where everyone will be happy.
Which should we choose?
Thanks for your help and input! :thumbsup2

I had lunch at Sci Fi diner 9th Dec last year. I thought I would love it as I am a big movie fan. I was very disappointed as their was absolutely no atmosphere. The food was ok but nothing special. We only had main course and the cost was more than it would have been if we had gone to Hollywood and Vine where we would have had a lot more food and fun. I was thinking of trying Prime Time Cafe next time. My 7 year old son and husband were with me too and both also disappointed.

Although we have not dined at either since our kids were younger (they are 22 and 20 now), I voted Prime Time because we preferred the food there a little bit more and the kids had a blast with the actions of the CM's. The Sci Fi is fun too with the cars...but with that many of you, you will have a hard time being together or close...depending on the crowd.

This is a hard choice. If you go to DHS twice then you can try both. BUT if you can only pick one - then I would go for 50's PT. The food is a little more sophisticated. You will laugh and have a great time. We find the SciFi place pretty dark and quiet.

I have eaten both places. I would vote for 50s Prime Time. The atmosphere is so cute and the food is good. At the Sci-Fi, the atmosphere is neat, but I don't remember the food being that special.
Be sure and make a res. because I do remember the wait at the 50s being LOOOOONG!!!!

Anything but 50's! We ranged from 60 down to 16 and everyone hated it! I had made all the ADRs and when we got outside, they wanted to leave me there 'cause it was my fault it was so bad!!

I voted for Sci-Fi, and have done both many times. The Sci-Fi is fun because of the atmosphere, the scenery. It doesn't matter if you have a great waiter or a bad one (well, you know what I mean). At the 50's PT, the staff is what makes the experience good or bad. We have had one great server, and my kids just adored the place then. She yelled at DH for wearing a hat, take his elbows off the table, fed him his veggies, etc. But the other 3 trips, we only had regular servers that did nothing but say they were "our cousin, aunt, etc". We could only watch other groups having a great time with their great server. It was a let down. So...I say Sci-Fi!

Wow, tough call. We've been to both several times, including both on our trip 2 months ago.

For a large group, not knowing the ages in your party, I would say 50's PT. Sci Fi only seats 6 to a car, it's very difficult to assist small children with eating there, it's impossible to talk to anyone other than the person sitting right next to you in the 2-seater car seat. It's pretty dark, the food is not the greatest (burgers are okay, everything else is risky).

50's food is decent if you like that home cooking type of food. I have tried many of their entrees and I like the fried chicken the best. And those smores for dessert, one of my favorites. The atmosphere is hit or miss. A lot really depends on the server you get. But overall, I feel the food is more consistent here than at Sci Fi.

We've been to both (and are going to both again in 3 weeks!). Sci-Fi is better for lunch and 50s is good for either. Just depends on what you are looking for. Sci-Fi is really quiet because everyone is watching the movie clips. 50s is entertaining and full of energy.

I love them both but I voted for 50's Prime Time. I just don't think Sci-Fi would be great for a large group. Seriously though they are 2 of my favorite restaurants on Disney property and you can't go wrong with either one!

Thanks for all the replies!
I did not put our kids ages in the post since they're in my signature - they'll be 2,4,8, and 18 when we travel...
It looks like we'll be doing Prime Time...
;)
