Planning on watching Billy Hill show around lunch but can't find Golden Horseshoe on the menus. Is the food actually from Stage Door Cafe? Are there any other CS close enough to grab for lunch and take into the Golden Horseshoe? (or is that weird?) If we want to watch the 12:15 show, what time do we need to start getting food and getting a seat?
This is one of my favorite options, but you do need to get there a bit early. In the peak season the show starts a line more than 30 minutes ahead. The inside are small wodden tables with wooden chairs (saloon style) all situated in rows in front of an elevated stage. There is also a balcony with tables along the rail all the way around.
No seat is really a bad seat. You can see and hear the show quite clearly from anywhere inside. If you are solo, see if you can find a seat near another group and leave a jacket or backpack there and ask them to watch it for you, then go stand in line. That should not be a problem. Whatever you do, decide quickly. I watch people come in and just stand there looking for a table while they all get snatched up. Others rush in and grab a table and then decide they want to get something to eat, only to find the lines getting long. Like most things at DLR, if you know what you want and go for it, you are ahead of the game.
As for the show, while there are differences, there are some things that they seem to do every time. I have never been disappointed in the shows there. During off-season, Billy Hill is not the only act to perform at the GH, so be sure to check the entertainment guide.
Yes, the food is really from the Stage Door Cafe, but there are some items they don't serve inside that you can only get outside, but I'm not sure why that is. You can bring food in from anywhere and eat it there, but we generally prefer to just eat what they serve there.
