Luggage collection & transfer info, if staying at Hyatt Regency Airport hotel.

Accoring to WDWinfo.com, "Included with your transfer is baggage handling. You place a special luggage tag on your bags, check them at your departing airport, and the next time you see them will be in your stateroom."

Is this only for those that are flying in on the morning/day of their cruise or is it also for those flying in the night before? We're flying in the night before our cruise & staying at the MCO Hyatt, but I'd love to avoid the luggage terminal altogether, if possible.

ETA: Or, is this when you can pay $10 for luggage retrieval? I think I wasn't sure about what the $10 fee was for and through it might have been for them to retrieve our luggage for the actual cruise ship.

It is for people arriving the day of the cruise. Disney will pull all the tagged bags from the carousel load them onto nondescript trucks and get them to the port. If you are staying at the airport, the MCO Hyatt will allow your luggage to be collected the morning of transfer to the ship and get them there for you. I don't have experience with the hotel doing that though.

So in short, you will have to grab the luggage from the carousel when you land, take it to the hotel for check in, and then tell them you want to have it transferred to Disney in the morning.

In 2015, we stayed at MCO Hyatt the night before our cruise. When we checked in, we told them that we were taking the Disney cruise the next day. They then gave us a folder with instructions and luggage tags. All we had to do was fill out the paperwork and place the tags on the luggage. The next day, we walked out of our room, leaving the bags behind. While we enjoyed the Magic Express ride to the port, our luggage was collect out of our room, taken to the port, and then taken to our room.

It really could not have been easier or less stressful.

DCL has implemented new rules regarding baggage transfer for those that are staying at the MCO Hyatt. Search the board for hyatt luggage to see previous discussions on the issue.

I suggest contacting both DCL and the Hyatt directly to find out what the current policy is. The hotel's website is https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/hotel/florida/hyatt-regency-orlando-international-airport/orlan I've emailed them before and found them quite responsive.

You'll have to contact the Hyatt about the luggage transfers to the DCL truck. They changed the procedure recently, and, if I recall correctly, I believe you must have booked the Hyatt through DCL (and pay the $10 fee) in order for them to pick up the bags and get them to the DCL people.

If that's the case, you'll have to bring your bags with you from your room to the DCL transfer desk on the lower level. There you hand over your bags to be transported on the truck they have there directly to the ship, and to your room onboard.

Thank for the helpful responses (& questions)! I know I'll feel like a pro after this first one, but I have so many questions about how to make this run as smoothly as possible. (I'll be juggling a double stroller and 3 bags of luggage while my mom tries to pull her own two pieces of luggage.) Thanks, y'all!

Just fill out the paperwork at check in and leave my luggage in the room. There is a $15 fee for someone to get my luggage from the MCO carousel and bring it to my Hyatt room for me, which I will gladly pay and generously tip. She said I can either call when we land and someone will meet me at the luggage carousel or I can check-in at the hotel and give a bell hop my luggage claim ticket and he/she will bring it to my room. Hooray!!

We'll have 2 nights before the cruise in December. According to our TA, they couldn't book that through DCL.
Did you get the impression from that call, that in such a situation, we'll have to take the bags to the DCL Transfer Desk ourselves? (We have the transfer booked through DCL).
Just want to be sure what to expect.

We come from Denmark and need to change fights in Newark on the way to Orlando. So we would have to handle our luggage there anyway = think about not having too much...

One quick note - we have done this twice. But be very clear when arranging (whether with your travel agent or on your own) that you want the luggage transfer from the hotel after spending the night. It worked seamlessly as described above on our first trip. On the second cruise, when we checked in to the hotel we confirmed we had luggage transfers, but then the next morning as we checked out of the hotel (our bags waiting in the room, as specified before) we luckily happened to mention the bags, and the hotel said "it says here they'll be pulled from the carousel today". Which...was obviously not true. anyway - it ended up being fine, as the hotel felt super bad (they could see in the system what had happened, and realized they should have caught it the night before), so they sent a bellman who got our bags and took them to the busses for us (giving our kids a ride with the luggage much of the way). He helped put the bags in the pile with the bags from the airport, they got on the bus and were in our room as scheduled.
So, anyway, just check at all moments. It will almost certainly be fine, and super convenient, but you can't check too often!

I think that means, if you didn't book the room through DCL, you'll have to pay for the luggage service from your room to the DCL truck.
