I’ve heard a lot of people who test positive and it taking 3+ hrs to get luggage. Are they still taking luggage before testing or will they allow you to test and get results before handing off luggage?

If you drive I’ve heard you can hang onto your luggage until cleared.

If you are driving or taking private transportation you can keep your luggage with you.
If you take the Disney bus service your luggage is transported separately from the bus.

If you have only carry-on sized items, you can take them with you, even if you ride the bus. Porters might try to convince you otherwise, but you can stand your ground. Of course, you'll have to hold onto those items until staterooms open between 1 & 3pm, so it depends on your embarkation plans which route you'd rather go if you don't have your own car.

When I took the DCL bus in October, my luggage went under the bus and traveled with us to the port. Then I was able to take it after getting off of the bus.

To clarify: can you hold onto your bags until you pass testing, and THEN have them checked for delivery to your stateroom?

Yes. They discourage this by the order of testing procedures, but unless things have changed since January, there is nothing to stop you from walking over and dropping your bags after testing.
But I suggest to just bring carryons:)

Interesting. I wonder why they want to spend time checking in bags and having to hunt them down before knowing definitively that you will sail?

I cruised 4 weeks ago and they insisted on taking our luggage before testing. We told them we were concerned and they assured us that the luggage is now being held in a special area until after the testing is completed. We agreed and let them take it and all went well, thankfully. We drove our own car and parked at the garage.

Unless it is actually DCL crew who are insisting on checking the bags first, it's mist likely the porters who will do anything for a tip. If they take your bags, they get their tip. They couldn't care less if you actually get aboard of have to wait for your bags.

We got off the Dream today. There were zero issues in keeping our luggage with us. Once we got our negative tests we walked our luggage over to the porters. They told us, after the fact, that they were keeping the luggage separate until the tests came in. I questioned the porters actually doing this but who knows.

Did you drive?

Just to clarify, what people are describing is Port Canaveral. At Miami and SanDiego, testing is done in the terminal after going through security so you can’t hold on to suitcases and give them to porters after testing.

Oh, I thought they all tested in the terminal. Good to know how it works in San Diego.
