How was your stay at SSR? We will be staying there in June with our 3 year old. Thanks!
p.s. We have the same bunny! I just came across him yesterday while cleaning out a closet.

I think that SSR is a great resort for a family with children. The main pool is great for little ones! In my trip report, I have given a highlevel view of SSR, but haven't done a detailed analysis yet. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me!

Ahhh! You have a Lucky Bunny cousin! how cool!

...it pours! Not only did I have a sore throat this weekend, but I managed to throw my back out too! :scared: :guilty: I was changing the spark plug wires on my car in the frigid cold with the wind blowing on my back...I go to stand up and :crazy2: my back froze up! I spent the rest of the weekend flat on my back on the heating pad. I am doing better today and can actually sit up, so I will try and post the next episode...

Will someone please buy Thumper a laptop so she can finish her reviews in bed?

Thank you everyone for the get well wishes. The Dr. was helpful - nice strong drugs to losen up the back until it heals. Ahhh...much better. Although, I felt better yesterday morning than I did today. Oh well, this has happened before, so I know I will be all good soon.

I am working on the next installment!!

I have a confession to make. I forgot to rate one venue from day 5 – Rose & Crown. After dinner, but before Illuminations, I stopped in the Rose & Crown for a pint of cider. I was greeted by Kelly, my bar maid, immediately. Kelly was great. She checked my id (I love it when I am proofed), and asked if I wanted the cider to go. I got the cider to go, but hung around for a while.

R&C’s pub is a nice – the only thing I would change would be bar stools. I really wish they had stools. I am sure there is some Disney reasoning behind not having bar stools, but this Disney Guest wished they had some!

The cider was good. I ended up taking it with me to my Illuminations’ viewing location!

My rankings:
Service: A+
Atmosphere: B+ (where are the dang stools)
Price: $9 including tip for 1 cider

Breakfast on day 6 was Boma’s. As I mentioned in my trip report, I had a bit too much fun at Jellyrolls and I wasn’t feeling my best this morning. Cara had made PS at Boma and invited me to join her for breakfast. We checked in at 9:45 for our 10 am PS and were seated by 10 am. We learned something cool about Boma’s pagers – they do work upstairs in the merchandise store!

Immediately after seating, we were greeted by our server. Cara ordered some West African Frunch, and I ordered Frunch and coffee. Frunch is a combination of lemonade, pineapple juice, guava juice, orange juice, and papaya juice. Frunch is excellent. I loved the different juice sensation. Boma’s coffee is a pressed pot of Kenyan coffee. To me, it seemed a bit strong…but, it was exactly what I needed after Jellyrolls.

Boma’s buffet is set-up in sections – this allows you to jump to areas with food you are interested in. At the middle section, there is an omelet station. I love eggs and omelets, but I can’t order regular omelets in a restaurant. Something in the way they prepare them doesn’t agree with me. The Omelet Chef was very willing to work with me. I ordered an egg white omelet with red peppers and cheddar cheese. Per my request, the chef made the omelet without adding any fat (cooking spray, oil, butter, etc) to the pan. This was great. The omelet turned out a little bland, but I appreciated the effort.

In addition to my egg white omelet, I tried the bacon, sausage, French toast, and fresh fruit. From the carving station, I had some cured pork lion, carved breakfast ham, and a curry egg hash. I loved the pork loin – I ended up going back for seconds! The curry egg has didn’t agree with me – I only tried on bit and that bite didn’t sit well.

Service was good. Our server was prompt to ask about drink refills and to clear plates away.

The food was yummy. For the less adventurous out there, I think that Boma’s breakfast is a good alternative. The breakfast buffet was mainly “normal” breakfast foods with some adventurous choices thrown in for fun. Kids can definitely find something to eat here – donut holes, fresh fruit, pastries, bagels, eggs, etc.

Atmosphere is nice. We were seated near a window. The window seats are further from the buffet, but I didn’t see that as a problem. Restaurant was clean and comfortable.

My rankings:
Service: A
Food: A
Atmosphere: A
Grand Total: $22 with tip (for 1)

Unfortunately, day 6 wasn’t a good picture day – I didn’t take any food pictures at all!! Sorry. :(

In a back corner of Asia, McDonald’s has a French fry stand. The choices are fries, fries, fries and hotdog, and fries and fountain soda. :rotfl2:

I mention the soda fountain, because I wanted a bottle of coke. It sounds silly, but I knew I wouldn’t finish it all and I wanted to be able to save it. Instead of the coke, I choose a large bottle of water. This was probably better for the hangover.

Service was quick and the fries tasted like all McD’s fries. Normally, I wouldn’t do McDonalds in the world, but there is nothing like McDonalds to cure a hangover. It was perfect!!

There is a little table area surrounding the CS. The Asian theme was carried out well. As it was way after lunch, the tables were mainly empty.

My rankings:
Service: A
Food: A+ (mainly because it cured the hangover)
Atmosphere: A
Grand Total: ??? – I paid cash for this, so it isn’t on my hotel portfolio. My guess is I spent less than $5.

Aloha Isle
Being an avid DISer, I had seen multiple mentions of Dole Whips. Being a big pineapple lover, I knew that I needed to try one. Throughout the entire trip, I kept telling myself that I would try one later…well, finally on my last night in WDW, later was running out.

On my last night, later finally arrived! Cara saved our Spectromagic seats, while I headed to Aloha Island. With just a brief wait, I was the proud owner of a Pineapple Float. I can see why Dole Whip gets rave reviews. It was very tasty…and it was amazing as a pineapple float. Buyers beware – if you don’t love pineapple, then this might be a bit much for you! For me, this was a perfect treat!

My rankings:
Service: A – quick and efficient
Food: A+
Grand Total: $3.72 with tax

Goofy's Candy Company
I know that Goofy’s Candy Company isn’t really a restaurant, but it is a sugar lover’s dream. With this in mind, I decided to review it as well.

After wandering around a while, I noticed the design your own candy area. A little girl and her mother were having their creation made. Too cool. I was overwhelmed by the need to make my own candy. So, I grabbed a sheet…are you ready? I decided on a gingerbread Mickey. Next, I wanted my gingerbread dipped in milk chocolate and topped with a caramel drizzle. My sheet filled out, I stood at the counter and waited. And waited. And waited. There were 2 CMs and CM-earning-her-ears standing right there and nobody came over to me. I waited some more. I finally tried to get a CM’s attention and FINALLY they took my candy order.

The cool thing about designing your own candy is you get to watch as they make it. My gingerbread Mickey was slowly lowered into the melted milk chocolate (oh no!). After getting his chocolate bath, he was placed in the fridge to firm him up. Next came the caramel drizzle. I have to say I am glad that I watched them do this – I was able to stop them from drowning gingerbread Mickey – it started as a drizzle and turned to a drown. I stopped the CM from overloading Mickey…he then went back into the fridge for some additional hardening. Finally, he was packed in a box and ready to go!

Late at night, I ate my Gingerbread Mickey and he was so good. I was scared it would be gingersnap hard, but I was excited that the gingerbread was soft. He was almost too sweet (is there a thing?), but very yummy.

In addition to my gingerbread Mickey, I decided on a giant chocolate covered caramel square. This thing was huge! 2” square (at least). I didn’t eat it that night, but when I did, I could only manage half of it.

I am not sure what all Cara got, but I do remember that she built her own pixy stick. Goofy’s Candy Co. has different sized tubes that you can fill with different flavors. Cara decided on the smallest tube. She must have had a ton of fun filling it, because she overfilled and couldn’t get it shut! She quickly solved that though.

Just as I was ready to check out, a line formed. Thankfully, the line moved quickly!

My rankings:
Food: A++ - this is definitely a place for a person with a sweet tooth
Atmosphere: A – very color, fun place with a TON of candy!
Service: B- - the CMs should pay more attention to the guests

Grand Total: $7.94 with tax

Earl of Sandwich
Now, Earl of Sandwich is another place that I had heard DISers rave about. I was having a hard time figuring out what all the excitement was about though – it is just a sandwich shop. I mean, how good could it be? Wow. I was totally floored. This place is amazing. It outclasses every other CS place.

I ordered the All American (minus tomato) and a small side salad.

The All American - roast turkey, buttermilk ranch, cranberries, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato

The sandwich was unbelievably good. They make the sandwiches to order, so they are always fresh. Because of the horrid SSR buses, I didn’t get to eat mine for at least 30 minutes after ordering. The sandwich was still amazing – this tells you how good Earl of Sandwich is.

It was after 10 pm, so the place was empty and service was quick. By the time we paid, our sandwiches were ready.

The only downfall to this restaurant – they only serve fountain soda. They have other bottled drinks to choose from, but no bottled soda.

My Rankings:
Food: A+++++++ - I can’t give it enough pluses
Atmosphere: B – Nice, but I don’t remember anything outstanding
Service: A+ - quick, polite counter service…the best CS I had
Price: A++ - best food for the price
Grand Total: $6.29 for sandwich and salad

I'm really enjoying your reviews. I can't wait to eat at some of these places in 2 weeks! Thanks for posting them and the pictures. :thumbsup2

These are great and I really like how you divide up the service, food, and atmosphere - sometimes one of these going bad makes the entire review negative.

I just wanted to add for Day 5 - we also had slow service in Morocco at the TS but not at Tangerine Cafe. Fast service and pretty good food.

The baklava brought back memories - on a frigid February day we found a side entrance to the Tangerine Cafe leads to a counter you can order coffee, hot tea, and desserts. I don't drink hot tea but she put my mint tea over ice and that worked out fine. We split a baklava and I remember they had some tarts with strawberries and about 6-8 other desserts there. It is all the way in the back of the Tangerine Cafe with it's own line/server/register. I can't wait to go back to see if some of the desserts you pictured are there so I can try something different.

Thanks again for the wonderful reviews!

:thumbsup2 Awesome food report! Thanks so much for sharing!
This report makes me very hungry... I really really really want to try that English Triffle! Is the Grand Tea the only place to find it? Thanks again!

No problem! I loved doing. Actually, I need to finish up the last day still...nothing that exciting, just Artist Pallette (again), Sommerfest, and Boulangerie Patisserie.

As for the English Triffle, I think that the Grand Tea is the only place to find it. I don't remember seeing it anywhere else. When you go to tea, you don't need to do a full tea. You can order just triffle! Mmmmm, trifle. Now I am hungry again...

This is the last day.

Artist Palette
Before starting my packing, I decided to head up to Artist Palette for breakfast and a soda refill. I perused the breakfast menu and decided to have a breakfast croissant (eggs, cheese, and bacon on a croissant); however, I needed one minor change. I needed them to cook the eggs without the oil/spray/whatever they use. I walked up to the counter and was greeted by a CM.

I ask, “Can I get a breakfast croissant made using eggs that haven’t been cooked with oil?”

The CM replied, “We make the croissants using eggs that have already been cooked.”

“Oh,” I answered, “Then, never mind.” And, I walked away to look for other options. After a minute, the kitchen manager walks up to me to ask me what I had wanted. I again explain that I wanted the eggs cooked without the fat, because the fat makes me ill.

Well, the kitchen manager proceeds to give me a lecture on how high fat the croissants are as well, and if I have problems with the fat from the eggs that I shouldn’t get the croissant, but a bagel. She then offers to make me some eggs without using the spray/fat/whatever. Fine. At this point, she goes back to make my eggs and I go to toast my bagel. As she makes my eggs, she continues to lecture me. She tells me that I should have asked to have the eggs cooked this way in the first place. Say it with me, people – “WHAT?”

I thought that I did that. Do you want to know the scary part about this whole thing? Me, yes me, the customer, ended up apologizing for not making myself clear. I blamed it on the lack of caffeine. I can’t believe that I apologized.

Now, I do realize that I tend to walk away from situations when I don’t get the answer that I expected. That is what I did with the first CM. She told me how they made the sandwich, I assumed that they couldn’t do it my way (it wasn’t Burger King after all), and I went to find another alternative. I was slight putout by this, but I am a grown woman. I would deal. But, to be lectured for not making myself clear, to be lectured for eating a croissant because it is high fat, and to be lectured without an ounce of caffeine in my system. That is just the limit. Just give my eggs so that I can get some caffeine and be by myself.

Apparently, I am still feeling some residual pain from this whole encounter. Breathe, Tara, breathe.

Now, the eggs and bagel were tasty, but I am not sure it was worth the grief.

My Rankings:
Service: Hm. I am not sure. The Kitchen Manager gets kudos for trying to make me happy, but loses points by lecturing me. I guess I will rank it a B.
Food: B+ - the eggs and bagel tasted like eggs and a bagel!
Grand Total: $5.20

Sommerfest
Around lunchtime, I had the strongest craving for a bratwurst. I don’t know where the craving came from – no, I am not pregnant…that would require something I am not sure I remember how to do – but, I was traveling solo. Solo means I could get bratwurst without any whining from the troops. ;)

In Germany, I found a very empty Sommerfest. I walked straight up to the CM and ordered my bratwurst.

90662100_1024.JPG

For the Sommerfest regulars out there, you will notice that my bratwurst is minus the sauerkraut. Now, I am going to go into a little bit of TT history here – feel free to skip ahead!

As I mentioned in Lucky Bunny’s bio, we both spent 15 months in the Ukraine. Ukraine is a wonderful country. My time spent was the best & worst time of my life. What does this have to do with sauerkraut? Well, Ukrainians eat a lot of cabbage. I mean A LOT of cabbage. Ukrainians use cabbage as Americans use lettuce. Cabbage on burgers, in salads, pickled. I never asked, but it just may be the Ukrainian national vegetable. When in Ukraine, do as the Ukrainians do – eat cabbage. When I arrived back in the States, I swore I would never eat cabbage again…so, one bratwurst minus the sauerkraut!

I am sure that was more than anyone wanted to know.

The CM, who served the food, mentioned that I was missing the best part. No thanks – this bunny has eaten way too much cabbage! I politely refused again and went to eat my brat!

My Rankings:
Service: A+ - quick, efficient and cares about the food!
Food: A – it was a brat…just what I wanted.
Grand Total: ??? – I paid cash!

Boulangerie Patisserie
After my bratwurst, it was time for some dessert! I headed back towards France and into Boulangerie Patisserie. A small line had formed, but it gave me some time to look at my options.

I have a HUGE sweet tooth, so I decided on two desserts – one for now, and one for later! I ordered strawberry mousse and a pralineige…

90662100_1025.JPG

90662100_1027.JPG

At least, I think the second one is a pralineige. I remember asking the CM for it and not being able to pronounce it! I even joked with the register CM about not being able to pronounce it.

The strawberry mousse was okay. It seemed to be a more of a gelatin texture than a mousse texture. Looking back on it, I really wish I had gotten the chocolate mousse. I just wanted to try something different.

The pastry was excellent. The pastry was light and crispy, and the cream was perfect. Of the two desserts, the pastry wins hands down!

My Rankings:
Service: A+ - quick and personable. I liked that the CMs were willing to interact.
Food: B – the mouse really brings down the score. I would give it a C and the pastry an A!
Grand Total - ???? – Again, I paid cash! Reasonable though.

There are many different variations of trifle. Rose & Crown has a citrus trifle. I haven't tried it, but they used to have a pretty good one made with strawberries. Not sure if they still do.

Great reviews! I really enjoyed reading them. :)
I have an obsession with the second pastry that you got and eat them everyday on my Disney trips. It's called a Nid d'Abeille which translates as a Nest of Bees. I ask how to pronounce it everytime and well I still can't. A French CM told me what it translated as and I just looked at her with a blank stare :rotfl: :sunny: Even after many trips to the bakery, I still can't pronounce it and just point at the pastry with a huge smile. :rotfl:
