Lucky Bunny Eats the World – with photos - Complete

The bad news is...I had to travel to Atlanta today, so I won't have much time to post...

The good news is....I will spending several hours on a plane, so I should be able to write some more...I will hopefully have new posts tomorrow.

Thanks for reading!

Yummy cant wait for more reviews.

I have to applaud any dining review that starts out with a photo of goldfish crackers!

I'd be kind of grumpy if I was charged for cake I didn't order! Especially $9 cake!

On the Rocks
As I mentioned in my trip report, I ended up spending several hours at the On the Rocks Pool bar. My room took a long while to be ready and the Steelers game was on. Between the two, I spent a couple of hours “On the Rocks”.

I arrived at the bar and was quickly greeted. Within seconds, the bartender had a cold beer in my hands. The service was great. The CM offered me another beer when mine became low. She listened to my complaints about my room not being ready. She was on my side and actually told me to go to the front desk and complain. She was tipped extra for that!

The food…I mean beer was good. Well, it was Bud Light, so as good as it can be. It was cold and fresh. I didn’t take a picture. I am sure you know what a plastic cup with beer looks like :thumbsup2 .

The atmosphere…it was nice, although warm. The other guests were friendly. I think I actually sold DVC to another guest. In a bathing suit, it would have been really nice to watch the game here. In jeans, it was toasty. As the afternoon wore on, the sun started setting behind me, and it became difficult to see the TV.

Le Cellier
At 6:45 pm, I checked in for my 7:10 PS. I was told that I technically wasn’t allowed to check in until 15 minutes prior to my PS, but the CM relented and checked me in. I found a seat in side, pulled out my book, and settled in until I was called.

At 7:10 exactly, I was called. The hostess guided me to table was very nice. She was curious about why I was there solo and asked if worked for Disney. I replied that I didn’t, but I was vacationing on my own. She seemed a bit shocked by this.

As soon as I was settled, Teryn, my server, greeted me. I ordered a glass of champagne and some water. Teryn returned with a bottle of champagne. I thought I had ordered a glass. There must have been fear in my eyes. She told me not to worry – that bringing the bottle to the table for a single glass was normal. Phew. As much as I love champagne, I didn’t think I could finish a bottle and make it back to SSR safely!

For my first course, I started with the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. My soup arrived quickly accompanied by the three breadsticks – sourdough, multigrain, and pretzel.

The soup… several factors influenced my feelings on the soup. First, I had read hundreds of reviews about this soup. An extremely high bar had been set. The soup was good, but not as good as I was expecting. Second, around the time my soup arrived, I started to feel miserable. My time at the pool bar had caught up with me – I was exhausted and I had the chills. Not a good combination. Third, the soup was compared to the Pumpkin soup from the Cali Grill – the Pumpkin soup won! Here is the soup…

90662100_0738.JPG

The breadsticks… Now, while the soup didn’t live up to my expectations, it was very tasty with the pretzel bread. The sourdough and multigrain were okay, but the pretzel bread was amazing. I would return to Le Cellier for the pretzel bread. Enough said.

For my main meal, I choose the 7 oz. Filet Mignon . The menu reads 7 oz. Filet Mignon - glazed with maple barbeque sauce and accompanied by cream cheese mashed potatoes. I also ordered a side of grilled asparagus. Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling well and, thus, forgot to take a picture before I started eating. After a few bites, I decided that I was feeling too poorly to continue. While I was waiting for Teryn to arrive with boxes, I remembered to snap some pictures…

90662100_0739.JPG

90662100_0740.JPG

Sick or not, I had to order dessert. Teryn was happy to point out the desserts that could be made to go. I choose the Chocolate Mouse.

90662100_0741.JPG

While Mr. Mouse didn’t travel well (the picture was prior to travel), his taste was great over 24 hours later! I highly recommend this dessert.

My rankings:
Service: A+ Teryn was great. She was friendly and a wonderful server. I could tell she wanted to interact more with me. I really wish that I had been feeling better, because I think she could have made the meal amazing. When I declared that I was feeling poorly, she went the extra mile to get me out the door quickly. Excellent service.

Food: A Again, I was not feeling well and this affected my feelings towards the food. The restaurant has great potential and I will have to try it again on my next trip. The leftovers were really tasty the next morning…I can only imagine the potential when they were fresh. The pretzel breadsticks – A++.

Atmosphere: A - the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but it can be a little crowded. My two top was a bit close to my neighbors. The décor is charming and relaxing. Overall, a nice place for a meal.

Grand Total: $60 with tip.

Thanks for the great posts! I almost want to change one of my ADRs to Le Cellier...it looks so good....maybe next time.

Really appreciate pictures with review! It all looks so YUMMY! Looking forward to the rest of your reviews.

Thanks!

I enjoyed last year’s tea so much that I decided I needed to experience the Grand Tea again this trip. My original PS was for 3:30 pm, but the Grand Floridian Guest Services was able to get me an earlier PS (2:10 pm). I was so grateful for the earlier time – by 1:30 pm, I was ready for tea.

I checked in promptly at 2:10 pm. The hostess quickly seated me at a corner table right next to the windows.

90662100_0776.JPG

Anne, my server, greeted me immediately.

Based on last year’s experience, I knew that I wanted the Grand Tea:
The Grand Tea - The classic English tradition of Afternoon Tea, Grand Floridian style. We offer you a variety of tea sandwiches, scones and jam tarts, followed by your choice of our freshly baked tea pastries or English trifle, accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine and your choice of tea. $24.50 per guest

For some reason, I just can’t eat seafood. From last year, I knew that the tea sandwiches included a shrimp salad. When I asked Anne about skipping the shrimp salad, she offered me my choice of substitutions. I choose an additional chicken salad instead. In addition, I also wanted to enjoy my champagne for a few minutes before the sandwiches and tea. Again, Anne was willing to serve my tea just the way I wanted it.

Before my champagne and sandwiches arrived, I snapped a picture of the table…
90662100_0775.JPG

Right before my sandwiches arrived, two priests were seated at the table next to me. One of the gentlemen was extremely friendly and had me engaged in conversation from the moment he sat down. We spent the first part of my meal talking about their trip in the World.

Unfortunately, my neighbors distracted me and I did not get a picture of my sandwiches. They were amazing. My favorite was the pear sandwich.

As I was finishing my sandwiches, I was ready for my tea to be served. I choose the Hot Cinnamon Spice. The tea was flavorful and just what I expected. I loved the kick of the cinnamon. Here is a picture of my tea cozy, a cup of tea, and Lucky Bunny…
90662tea-med.JPG

My next course was scones and jam tarts. The jam tarts were good, but I fell in love with the scones with cream - absolutely amazing. I was halfway through before I realized I hadn’t taken a picture…
90662100_0777.JPG

The final course was a choice between fresh pastries or English Trifle. Anne’s description of the trifle sold me. I am so glad that I choose the trifle. It was amazing.

90662100_0779.JPG

I will try and describe the English Trifle as well as Anne did. The bottom of the trifle is fresh strawberries. On top of the strawberries is a sponge cake. The sponge cake is the first layer you can see in the picture. On top of the sponge cake is a layer of thick, creamy custard, followed by a layer of mixed berry filling. The mixed berries are followed by another piece of sponge cake topped with more custard. The entire trifle is then topped (and surrounded) by fresh whipped cream.

I do not have words to describe how good the English Trifle was. It was unbelievably good. After I had eaten a few bites, Anne came back to check on me. She saw the look of love on my face and said, “I told you it was good.” She was right.

My ratings:
Service: A+ - Anne’s service was flawless.
Food: A+ - the English Trifle gets hundreds of +’s
Atmosphere: A+ Charming and cozy. The Garden View Lounge cannot handle large numbers, but it is perfect for afternoon tea.

Thank you for posting your reviews and pictures of the tea. I'm so excited to try it in May! :cool1: I gotta try the trifle.

Great reviews! I am totally with you on the cheddar cheese soup. It also didn't help that I was sick, getting that tickly thing in my throat and trying to eat the soup with the pepper in it made me run to the ladies room to hack for 5 minutes. People were starting to wonder if I caught a contagious monkey disease or something from the soup.

I also had the chocolate moose and isn't he the cutest, yummiest thing?

Tea sounds fab! I love trifle. Must add this to my "things to do for my 2009 solo trip". Never to early to plan.

Also LOVE Lucky Bunny! Soooo much better than "pocket cookie" which is a 5 year old snickerdoodle that I have been carrying around on vacation, taking pictures of. Old cookie = lame. Cute bunny = cool

My original plan for Monday night was to grab CS at MK before settling down for the Spectromagic Parade. Reality was different. After my tea, I decided that I would be happier chilling out for the evening instead. I returned to SSR, swam, and took a nap. Around 7 pm, I was starving. I debated heading over to Downtown Disney for a meal at one of the TS restaurants, but one look at my hair killed that idea.

Wet Head + Nap =

The idea of trying to tame my medusa like hair seemed like too much work. Instead, I decided to grab a to-go meal from either the Turf Club or Artist Palette. I started at Artist Palette, but after staring at the limited menu I decided that the Turf Club was more my speed.

Next store to AP, the Turf Club is a country club/bar sort of thing. They offer your basic burgers, fried food and appetizers. The menu better fit my mood. Although, it seems that SSR does not believe in french fries. Both restaurants only serve homemade chips. In my opinion, chips are good, but french fries are better.

Anyway, I go to place my order and I am told they do not do food to-go. They don’t have any to-go containers. What? The Turf Club is right next store to Artist Palette. Artist Palette doesn’t put their food on real plates…couldn’t you grab a to-go plate from them? Apparently not. So, the woman sent me back to AP. After staring at their menu a while longer, I decided on a cesear salad with chicken.

While they were making my salad, I found some chips and queso in their pantry area. I couldn’t resist and I purchased them as well. After paying, I returned to my room with my feast.

Here is a picture of my salad:
90662100_0784.JPG

For all of my lack of enthusiasm, the salad was tasty and it was fresh. They partially pre-sliced the chicken to make it easier to eat, but it was still difficult to cut the lettuce and chicken with plastic utensils. The lettuce is unchopped romaine hearts. The dressing was a nice cesear dressing.

Artist Palette Rankings:
Service: A – it was quick and easy.
Food Selection: C – if you don’t want a flatbread or salad, there isn’t much to choose from
Food Taste: B+ - the salad was tasty

Grand Total: $14.30 with chips and queso.

Overall, I really can’t wait until SSR gets its own full service restaurant. The nearness to DD is nice, but it isn’t the same as an onsite restaurant. AP is a good, but limited, counter service choice.

The soup was a disappointment - but it is too funny that we were both sick on our visits to Le Cellier!

I can't recommend the tea enough. It is a great way to pamper yourself. Next time, I think I will get a massage then go to tea...if I can swing it, maybe I will even stay at the GF. Well, that may a bit much!

Lucky Bunny says thanks! I have to admit he is one cool bunny!

Main Street Bakery
For breakfast, I stopped at the Main Street Bakery. It took me four trips to WDW to even set food in this place. Now that I have been, I know that I will be going back! Breakfast a cinnamon roll and a 20 oz. Coke.

The cinnamon roll was delicious. It was fresh and warm. The topping was very sticky an sweet, but it wasn’t too sweet. It was finger licking good. Actually, licking my fingers was required because I was trying to eat and walk. This isn’t the most portable food! From a mess stand point, it would have been better to sit down and eat this with a knife and fork. However, I am a lady who likes to live on the edge…and I wanted to get to Big Thunder Mt. before it became crowded. Please don’t tell me how many calories are in one of those things, because if I don’t know I can make believe that they are low calorie!

A line had already formed when I entered the Bakery, but I found this to be beneficial. I was able to decide what I wanted before it was my turn. I didn’t see a menu; so looking into the glass case is the only way to figure out what to order. I had just enough time to decide what I wanted and it was my turn.

Cantina de San Angel
For lunch, I was craving a margarita. I had eaten at Cantina de San Angel before, so I knew what I was getting. The counter service set up is a bit confusing. The pick up area gets backed up and people think that is where you order food. I saw this confuse at least 3 people while I was waiting in line. The line did take a while, but it could have been worse.

I ordered a margarita and some nachos…
90662100_0790.JPG

90662100_0789.JPG

The margarita was good. Not the best ever, but it was tasty and I enjoyed it. The nachos were good, but had a lot of tomatoes. I don’t like raw tomatoes, so I should have ordered it without tomatoes. However, the line was long and I figured I could eat around them. Personally, I would have liked to see more cheese sauce, but overall the nachos were good. Not the best counter service, but it did the trick.

The view for this restaurant is nice…

Liberty Tree Tavern
Unfortunately, I had my camera out for character pictures and didn’t even think of taking pictures of the food. Pathetic, huh?

This is a family style meal that highlights comfort food. The first course is salad and rolls. The salad has a wonderful strawberry vinaigrette dressing and is made up of wild greens. The rolls are warm and served with a sweet butter. Oh my, the rolls and butter were very good. It was hard not to eat too many rolls, but I wanted to save room for dinner.

Dinner was turkey, ham and flank steak with mash potatoes, green beans, stuffing and macaroni and cheese. The turkey and ham were delicious and well prepared. The steak was a bit dry – almost too well done. I prefer my meat medium, so the too well done was a bit much for me. The steak was well seasoned though.

The mash potatoes and green beans were my favorite sides. I love stuffing, but I was a bit disappointed in the stuffing. It had some key ingredient missing. I only eat is Aunt Annie’s Bunny Approved Mac & Cheese, so I didn’t try the Mac & Cheese. CareBear05 seemed to like it though.

Dessert was apple crumble with vanilla ice cream. It was good. I wish I had had more room!

Character interaction was great. All the characters came to our table at least once. They were very patient with pictures. It was fun to see them interact at tables with children. Seeing a child’s face light up as a character approaches is priceless.

Our server was good. I did have to ask for a refill, but she was quick to bring one out when I asked. She paced out meal well, and I have no complaints. Service was adequate, but not amazing. Given the environment, amazing service would have been difficult.

Atmosphere/environment was good. The tables were not crammed together and there was enough room for everyone to get around.

Didn't you know that when you are walking and eating at the same time that cancels out the calories???? :rotfl:

I keep telling them we need a board for posts like this, but nobody ever listens. If it weren't for the fact that I already have one wife who doesn't like seafood, I'd be yours! Instead I'll just suggest more pictures of yourself along with the food. ;)

Skipping the mac & cheese at Liberty Tree was probably a good idea; it's incredibly heavy. There must be a whole stick of butter in each serving. Our DS9 loves mac & cheese, and quickly gobbled down a sizable portion, then paid the price, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the terrific reviews and pix! You've given me the courage to go through with my solo ADRs for my business trip next month, including GF tea. I'll never be able to drag my family to that one, so I may as well do it solo.

Thanx for the fab reviews and the fantastic piccies :goodvibes

Backlot Express
For lunch on Day 5, I was in MGM with Carebear05. CB05 loves ABC Commissionary, but they weren’t open. After hopelessly wandering around looking for food, we ended up at Backlot.

The crowd levels at MGM were not high, but Backlot was packed. We waited 10 minutes in line to order the food. Now, I have a slight pet peeve and it comes up here. While you are waiting in line, look at the menu! I mean don’t wait until you are at the register to look at the menu. I watched a family of four do this in our line. I was amazed…you spent ten minutes waiting and you couldn’t read the menu then? Okay enough of that…

So, anyway, I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, coke, and chocolate mousse. I am actually surprised that I decided on the cheeseburger. Backlot has some amazing looking sandwiches including a grilled turkey and cheese that sounded amazing. Instead, I choose a cheeseburger. The food was good, solid comfort food – very tasty. CB05 got the same thing, but added cheese sauce into the mix. The mousse was really yummy and a great way to end the meal. I was stuffed.

Food: A – can’t really mess up a cheeseburger and fries!
Counter Service: A- -crowded, but they handled the crowd well
Grand Total: $14.66 (Cheeseburger, fries, large coke and chocolate mousse)

Marrakesh
Marrakesh was another restaurant that my family vetoed last year. As I have had very little exposure to Moroccan food, I was excited for my dinner here.

I arrived early for my PS and was seated immediately. The restaurant was almost empty, so I was able to snap a shot of another table…

90662100_0871.JPG

My server took a while to greet me. I had been seated long enough for me to consider calling a manager when she arrived. Unfortunately, she was a bit soft spoken and I wasn’t able to catch her name. To start with, I wanted the Moroccan rose wine, but they were out of it. I decided on the Moroccan chardonnay instead. The wine was flavorful, but not too strong. With my wine, my server brought out some multigrain bread…

90662100_0863.JPG

The bread was warm and incredibly delicious. I had to stop myself from eating the whole loaf – a very difficult thing to do.

For my meal, I decided on the Marrakesh feast. This starts off with the Harira Soup and a Beef Brewat Roll…

90662100_0864.JPG

The Harira soup is a traditional hearty flavored soup with tomatoes, lentils and lamb. This soup was rich and flavorful. I really like the spiciness of the soup – it wasn’t spicy as in hot, but spicy in a flavorful way. From the description, I was expecting a clear soup. The soup was almost creamy in texture. I loved taking the bread and dipping it in the soup. Yummy.

The Beef Brewat roll is hard to describe. The menu describes them as layers of thin pastry stuffed with seasoned minced beef, fried and sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The closest thing I can compare it to is an eggroll, but that doesn’t do it justice. The minced beef is seasoned perfectly. The savory beef flavor mixes with the sweet sugar and cinnamon – an unusual, delicious combination. The pastry is not heavy like an eggroll, but light. Mouth-watering.

While enjoying my soup and roll, I finished my wine and my water. My server was nowhere to be found and I couldn’t get anyone else’s attention. After at least five minutes, my server returned to the dining room. I was able to flag her down for another glass of wine and a refill of water.

The main course was Lemon Chicken, Beef Shish Kebab, and Couscous with Seven Vegetables…

90662100_0867.JPG

The Lemon Chicken – braised chicken seasoned with garlic, green olives and preserved lemon – was flavorless. With preserved lemon and green olives, I expected the chicken to be bursting with flavor. It wasn’t.

The Couscous with Seven Vegetables – rolled semolina steamed and served with seasonal vegetables – was also bland.

The Beef Shish Kebab – grilled tenderloin of beef marinated in Moroccan herbs and spices – was the best of the bunch. The beef had a lot more flavor. However, the beef was a bit overcooked for me. In the future, I think that I would try this dish again provided I asked for my meat to be cooked medium rare.

The dessert course was Assorted Moroccan Pastries…

90662100_0869.JPG

The pastries were excellent. Nice, light crust with unique fillings. I really enjoyed the dessert.

The atmosphere in Marrakesh is lovely. The décor is very pleasing to the eye – I loved the wall tiles. During my soup course, the Marrakesh band started to play.

90662band.JPG

After a song, the belly dancer came out…

90662bellydancer.JPG

The belly dancer danced for a song and then went into the audience to find a bald man. She encouraged him to come out and dance with her. He did! After that dance, she danced another song on her own and then coerced some kids to come dance with her. She was beautiful and graceful. When I grow up, I want to look like her. It was fun to watch all of the teenage boys whip out their cell phones and start taking pictures of her!

The band was really good too. I was boogying in my seat. One of the male servers asked me if I was going to get up and dance. Um, no. Not after seeing the beautiful and talented dancer go. No sense in embarrassing myself! This bunny just likes to pretend she can dance…

Overall, I enjoyed my meal here. The appetizers, dessert and atmosphere made this meal enjoyable. The main course needs some work.

Jellyrolls
After Illuminations, I headed over to Jellyrolls with CareBear05. Jellyrolls is amazing. I loved the music. It was so much fun to listen and sing along. The piano players were amazing – just about any song you could imagine, they could play. Way cool!

Bar service was shoddy – Cara tried to order drinks at the bar and it took forever. Our cocktail server was a lot better. He was visible when we needed him!

I am not sure the grand total for the night – Jellyrolls does NOT take the room card. As I was not carry my credit card on me, this caught me by surprise. They only take credit and cash! Thankfully, I had some cash on me. My best guess - a bottle of Miller Lite was $4.25 - $4.50. I am not sure though.

My rankings:
