luck getting AP rates shortly before arrival??

I'm calling every morning to try to improve our rate for our trip. Is this futile? Anybody out there been able to get a lowered AP rate shortly before their trip?

Just wanted to encourage you to keep calling - every day. (Use that toll-free number!) I was able to change a full rate 1 night stay at the Contemporary to a passholder rate and saved almost $90. Someone must have cancelled at the last minute. It's always worth it to keep trying. Cancellations happen and you might get through at "just" the right time. Good luck!

I booked AP rate of $179 for ALK savannah view this fall about 3 weeks prior to arrival.

My reservation was literally in three parts! Two CBR days, 2 AKL days and an additional AKL day. I called last night and an angel named Halsey found my two AP rate savannah view rooms for my CBR days! No switching resorts the morning of our safari! Keep calling!

I would also like to mention that my trip with my mother was very short notice as it was tacked onto a conference I was attending in Tampa. When I called 1 week out I had my choice of resorts on her Florida resident rate. I think many people grab the lower rate rooms quickly, then change their minds.

It's definitely not futile. Keep trying. We got an AP rate at AKL in December the day before we checked in and had not been able to book that rate several weeks earlier. So...rooms do appear.
