I'm in the middle of planning a major renovation. I want to get a 6 burner range , double ovens and a grill. I'd really like to get a Wolf (dream on I know) dual Fuel range but I don't have gas in my area so I would have to get LP gas. Does anyone have an LP range??? Pros/Cons???? What range do you have??? Do you like it????

Are you a serious cook???
We renovated our kitchen 2 years ago..I got double ovens and oddly enough a Wolf range..6 burners. That I love, but have yet to use the 6, not even 5, at one time and the double ovens?? I forget I have the 2nd one until holidays, such as tomorrow (Thanksgiving here) anyways-I digress...what is LP? Forgive my ignorance?:confused3

I have a Kitchen Aid gas cooktop and live in a house where I have had to get LP gas. The company that instaqlled the gas and did all the connections also replaced some burner parts that came as a kit from the manufacturer so the cooktop would work properly on LP rather than Natural gas.

There is a guage on the tank outside the house that gives the percentage of capacity it is at; I get it refilled when it is down to about 20% and never have any problems. Technically the supplier owns the tank itself and rents it to me for $5.00 per month; I had given them authority to charge this to a credit card.

I do alot of cooking and have a large family. LP is the big cylinders of gas you see sometimes next to people's homes.

I know one of the critiques of LP is a slight decrease in heat level(?). Have you noticed any difference?? How often on average do you need to fill up?? Is it expensive?? Thanks for the info

What is a Wolf? If a range, how is it better that any of the other brands?

I have the Wolf dual fuel 6 burner range with grill & double ovens. I think I've chatted with you before Twinglemum! We have natural gas though, so I can't answer your questions on LP (propane). We did use a propane tank for a basement heater in our old house, and it was very expensive to refill the tank.

The range is like a piece of art in the kitchen - and like the OP said, I've never had 5 or more burners in use at once. I have had both ovens going, but rarely. The grill is nice in the winter when it's too cold to grill outside here. But is IS messy to clean up!

If I were to remodel or build I don't know that I'd go with the Wolf again. Not Wolf specifically, just a range that large. I love it - no complaints - but it cost more than my 1st car, and I think next time I'd use that money towards something else.

Totally agree...I like to cook but I don't LIVE to cook! I suspect someone who does and entertains alot would benefit from it but me, the best thing I make is reservations for dinner!!;) And yes, clean up is a *^&$ so I don't grill often because I don't want to clean it up!

I can't comment on the heat level because I've only ever used LP. I have never had any issues though.

We get our tank filled every 4-6 weeks. (I don't call, they just come out.) The current price where we live is $2.69 a gallon. We average about 15 gallons each time. However, we also use propane for our water heater and dryer (although I hang our clothes most of the time) and they'll also fill the tank for our grill if it's empty so, probably less than half of that 15 gallons is being used by our range.

Hey Minnie,
I am in the midst of redoing our kitchen, and would love to know about yours.
I currently have a built in double wall oven, stove on top broiler bottom that needs to be replaced as does my gas burner cooktop, although I love the idea of built ins, prices are costly.
I can get a have decent stove for the price of a cook top or built in.
Do you have any ideas any decent appliance places ?

I can tell you RUN far away from Goemans!!!!! They were a nightmare with anything we had an issue with! I should have gone with our first choice and that was Tasco. I have also heard of a place called Caplan's? Not sure where they are, but I am told they will beat the price of anyone!

In hindsight--because it IS 20/20 after all-- I almost wish we had gone with some of my tried and true manufacturers such as GE. I had a GE fridge before (Profile) and loved it. I have a Kitchen Aid now and it has been awful. I had a great Kitchen Aid dishwasher..loved it-hence buying the fridge...have a Bosch now, hate it..and so it goes?? I mixed some of my brands according to features I liked and what worked with the layout of my plan. And have not been thrilled with anything. It's a gamble I guess:confused3

We added on to our kitchen (200sq ft) before we renovated and then it was all new from there on.

Good Luck! It's great fun and a lot of $$$$ but we all seem to gravitate to the kitchen so we may as well love it!!

If I can help further, please let me know?

LP is assume is liquid propane?

if so, we have a 6 burner Dacor dual fuel range...stovetop is gas, oven is electric. We have a propane tank. It seems fine. I notice no difference in temperature. Stove works well. Tank gets filled periodically.

So far it's been a win/win.:thumbsup2

Hey Minnie,
Thanks for the advise, I may pm you for further info
As for Caplans I have heard of them and actually sent my sil to then when she was doing her cottage in Muskoka.
I am glad to hear that you find GE appliances better than Kitchen Aid, as I think they are less costly ?
Helps with my plans

I have to agree with Minnie56 - I should have skipped the WOW factor (and the extra $25K) and just stuck with good old GE or something tried & true. Most brands now make very attractive stainless steel with all the features. But I was building a custom home & wanted my kitchen to be right out of the magazine pics like everyone else's. I have Wolf for the range but everything else is Jenn-Air. No major complaints on the Jenn Air appliances (2 dishwashers, side-by-side fridge, wine fridge) but I could have gotten something very similar for less $$ in a lower-end brand. We've had little things go wrong with each appliance so far & they are only 4 years old. Some happened under warranty, some did not. I still need to call to have my auto ice/water dispenser fixed on the fridge (it just up & quit working about 6 months ago) but I'm afriad to see the repair bill!

DanMurphy - Wolf is a high-end brand of ranges - they are professional restaurant quality fitted for residential homes.

As I mentioned, I loved my Kitchen Aid Dishwasher but the fridge has been a lot of issues. I also have a Wine fridge and Beverage Center..have had issues with both of them with condensation so much so that I had to replace the hardwood under them once and it needs doing again! Sometimes they are so fancy and have as TaraPA said the 'wow' factor but I am not always sure that the technology is there?:confused3

That all being said..today, I am glad I have 2 ovens :rolleyes1 and kind of wish I had got 2 dishwashers too! That is--until they make them self un-loading ..I hate unloading the DW!!

Have a good day!:)

I have 2 sons whose chores are to load & unload the DW's....I HATE doing that too!

Perfect!!! Around here nobody seems to 'see' when it's clean and full!!!!!
:rolleyes1

We have an inground propane tank for our pool heater. (Its the only one that wouldn't be visible from the street. IF we stay in our house, (not move to Ma.) I would love to tap into that tank when I redo the kitchen. On my list are duel gas wall ovens and a gas cook top, also ventless gas logs. I am glad someone started this thread. Of course those plans are on hold for now, and if we stay, on hold until the ground thaws after the winter so we can get a gas line in the house from the inground tank.

That's something to consider - having an underground LP tank. Do that if you can. In the old house ours was above ground & MANY potential buyers commented on it as a negative when showing our house. We had problems placing the tank due to township restrictions (had to be so many feet away from X, Y & Z) so it was visible from the street, and was on the front side of the house. In our township you also cannot paint or disguise your tank in any way, so it was very bright white & stuck out like a sore thumb!
